Adam Gilchrist Gordon Cricket Annual Special Guests Charity Golf Day and Dinner Adam Gilchrist Killara Golf Club – February 16, 2012 The Gordon District Cricket Club Golf Day and Dinner will again be held at Killara Golf Club on Thursday February 16, 2017. As a special treat for our long-time supporters, and past and current players we will welcome Adam Gilchrist on the night to share some of his Gordon experiences as well as his well-documented cricket career and post cricket achievements. Adam will be joined by former Gordon player and now Executive General manager of Cricket Australia, Kevin Roberts as well as highly acclaimed TV personality Tony Squires. Registration from 10.30 and lunch from 11.30am Adam is returning to where he played his The event will open with registration followed by a BBQ lunch and a putting competition on the practice green while players prepare for the initial Grade cricket before moving to day. The Event will be a four ball “Shambles” where all players hit from the tee; select the best ball and then play individually from that position. The best score of the group after handicap is then recorded. A Kevin Roberts presentation will be conducted following the golf before dinner. Dinner and auction from 6.30pm Pre-dinner drinks will start from 6.30pm with dinner being served at 7pm. If you are not a golfer you can come just for the drinks, dinner and auction. Auction prizes will be advertised in advance of the event. As with previous years the club will make a donation to our nominated sponsor Dream Cricket. Dream Cricket provides primary school students with special needs with an opportunity to play cricket and has grown to encompass schools and children throughout Australia and internationally. Other profits for the day will go to the GDCC Youth Development Program.     ADAM GILCHRIST Published on 9.12.17 Playing as an indivisible unit the reason behind Australia’s success Perfection, success and triumph are tricky things in a team sport. Personal success is only part of the greater picture, and a perfect, ideal team player is one who enjoys the success of his teammates as much as he does his own. Having been part of a team that won three World Cups and was the number one team in Test cricket, I can say that it was a team of different, diverse individuals. I would even go to the extent of saying that not all the players were fast friends, and yes, there were several superstars in the team as well. However, when we went onto the field, we played as an indivisible unit, and that was the success of the Australian team. We had a truly exceptional motivator in John Buchanan who would challenge us in different ways. He ensured that we never rested on our laurels and was always finding ways of expanding our horizons. Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting, too, were outstanding leaders and Australia had one streak each, of sixteen wins each, under these two captains. Both were strong personalities and ensured that our motivation never dipped during those winning streaks. It took exceptional performances (coincidentally, it was India on both occasions) to stop our streak. Teamwork also makes the challenge of looking after one’s own performance both a selfish and selfless enterprise. One factoid that gives me immense pleasure is the fact that I have fifty-plus scores in all of the three World Cup finals that I played in.

On March 25, the Australian prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull, condemned the Australian cricketers' actions. March 26: Cricket Australia (CA) officials travelled to South Africa to investigate. March 27: Smith, Bancroft and vice-captain, David Warner, were sent home from the tour. CA stated they were the only individuals who knew of the plan to alter the condition of the ball. Elite representatives are variably celebrated as national icons or uneasy sources of collective identity, given tendencies to become ‘Ugly Australians’. Within the Australian cricket team, this combustive mix of nationalism, moralism, masculinity, and instrumental deviance coalesced into a win-at-all-costs ethos, culminating in brazen cheating and causing apparent diplomatic embarrassment. More Abstract: significant, however, were underlying strategies of self-confessedly brutal degradation of opponents. Strategic aggression and humiliation were abetted by governing bodies who demanded success, but neglected to uphold ethical standards. Moral hazards and regulatory gaps incentivised players to self-set ‘the line’ of acceptable conduct, enabling injurious tactics that included intimidation, emasculation, mockery, and mass invective.
