Dates and times are as follows: May 13th 7:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. May 14th 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. May 15th 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. May 16th 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. No registration will be taken before these dates. Registrations must be made in person. A late fee of $10.00 will be charged to anyone who does not register during these days. EARLY SWIMMING LESSON REGISTRATION There will be an early swimming lesson registration on May 8th and 9th from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. WELCOME FROM THE STAFF & COMMISSIONERS The Devils Lake Park Board Staff and Commissioners welcome everyone once again to participate in our programs and activities and to make use of our facilities to make your leisure time more enjoyable and relaxing. Our mission is to promote and provide broad-based recreational programs to all the citizens of Devils Lake and the Lake Region area in order to improve the quality of life in our area. This Activities Booklet contains the majority of our events and programs but more may be added as the year progresses and the need arises. We have tried to keep our activity fees as reasonable as possible and once again this year there are only a few minor fee increases. We will continue to keep our fees as low as possible but there may be a need to increase fees in the future as operating costs continue to increase. We look forward to this coming year with excitement and enthusiasm as we once again have a number of events scheduled for the coming year. We will be hosting the 13-15 Year Old East Region Babe Ruth Tournament and the ND Women’s Rec II East State Softball Tournament this summer along with a number of other events including the Devils Lake 125th Centennial Celebration. We will once again be holding the week long Kids Fishing Camp in August. We continue to host a number of hockey and basketball tournaments during the winter and are hoping to host another state hockey tournament this winter along with the ND State Pond Hockey Championship. We encourage our citizens that have suggestions on improving or adding programs to please come forward with your ideas. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the many businesses, fraternal organizations, clubs, and individuals that support us throughout the year. These groups and individuals make it possible for us to provide the wide range of programs and facilities we offer to the Lake Region and our visitors. Office staff is available from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Phone: 662-8243. WEBSITE/E-MAIL: The Devils Lake Park Board website is www.dlparkboard.com and the email address is [email protected]. REGISTRATION: Pre-season registration for summer programs will take place at the Recreation Office in the Burdick Arena, May 13th from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., May 14th, 15th & 16th from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There will be an early sign-up for swimming lesson registration on May 8th from 8:00 - 5:00 p.m. and May 9th from 8:00 - 5:00 p.m. Registration for all youth programs must be made in person. No phone registrations will be taken and no registration is final until all fees are paid. A late fee of $10.00 will be charged to anyone who does not register during these days. RESIDENT/NON-RESIDENT FEES: The Devils Lake Park Board receives tax dollars only from residents in the city limits of Devils Lake; therefore, a set residential/non-residential fee will be charged for participating in the Devils Lake Park District recreational programs. There will be a maximum of $10.00 charged per activity for non-residents of the Park District. PAYMENT OF FEES: Fees are to be paid at the time of registration. REFUNDS: The Devils Lake Park Board has a NO REFUND policy for all programs unless the program is cancelled. Absolutely no refunds once a program begins. SCHEDULING: The Devils Lake Park Board reserves the right to adjust scheduling, if necessary, based on the availability of instructors, facilities, and number enrolled in program. If program changes are made, those registered will be notified. INSURANCE: The Devils Lake Park Board does not carry medical or accident insurance for the participants of its programs. The cost of doing so would be so high that fees charged for programs would become prohibitive. We suggest that you review your family’s personal health insurance plan to be sure that it provides you with sufficient coverage. We also recommend that all participants check with family physicians before participating in any program that requires physical exertion. SCHOLARSHIPS/GRANTS: Youth activity scholarship money for low-income households are available through the Dakota Prairie Community Action Agency, located at 223 4th Street. Applications may be picked up at Dakota Prairie Community Action Agency Monday-Friday from 8:00-5:00 p.m. For further information on DPCAA Scholarships call Lora at 662-6500 ext. 331.     Roller Hockey Handbook & Local Rules Mission statement “Bainbridge Roller Hockey League encourages spirited competition, teamwork, good sportsmanship, and fun on and off the rink. We strive for a mix of age, gender and ability in every division. Our community embraces the physical challenge, encourages leadership and values fair play for all.” About BRHL BRHL is a co-ed, mixed-ability; recreational roller hockey league for players ages 7-17. Founded in 1996, we are one of the most popular sports on the Island. All games and practices take place at Battle Point Park (no off-island travel) and all games are played against other BRHL teams. Play is fast-paced and fun, and players with all levels of skills are welcome. BRHL is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Divisions Players are grouped by age (as of May 1) into three divisions. BRHL conducts a weekend of mandatory, but relaxed, pre-season skater evaluations to create balanced teams. Because our top priority is to create balanced teams, we do not accept requests to place skaters with certain skaters or coaches. Because team assignments are not known until after the evaluations are completed, we cannot guarantee practice nights prior to the start of the season. Divisions are based on age and contain a mix of new and experienced players. • Division 1 (D1): 7 – 10 years old o Practice either Mon/Wed or Tue/Thu from 4:30-5:30pm o Saturday Games o 12 Regular Season Games + 2 Playoff Games • Division 2 (D2): 11 – 13 years old o Practice either Mon/Wed or Tue/Thu from 5:30-6:30 or 6:30-7:30pm

    APPENDIX B – NATIONAL TRENDS TRENDS ANALYSIS Information released by Sports & Fitness Industry Association’s (SFIA) 2016 Study of Sports, Fitness, and Leisure Activities Topline Participation Report reveals that the most popular sport and recreational activities include: fitness walking, treadmill, running/jogging, free weights and road bicycling. Most of these activities appeal to both young and old alike, can be done in most environments, are enjoyed regardless of level of skill, and have minimal economic barriers to entry. These popular activities also have appeal because of their social application. For example, although fitness activities are mainly self-directed, people enjoy walking and biking with other individuals because it can offer a degree of camaraderie. Fitness walking has remained the most popular activity of the past decade by a large margin, in terms of total participants. Fitness walking participation last year was reported to be nearly 110 million Americans. Although fitness walking has the highest level of participation, it did report a 2.4% decrease in 2015 from the previous year. This recent decline in fitness walking participation paired with upward trends in a wide variety of other activities, especially in fitness and sports, suggests that active individuals are finding new ways to exercise and diversifying their recreational interests. In addition, the popularity of many outdoor adventure and water-based activities has experienced positive growth based on the most recent findings; however, many of these activities’ rapid increase in participation is likely a product of their relatively low user base, which may indicate that these sharp upward trends may not be sustained long into the future.
