HONDA INDY GRAND PRIX OF ALABAMA TO TAKE PLACE APRIL 5-7, 2019 INDYCAR ANNOUNCES 17-RACE SCHEDULE (Sept. 4, 2018) – INDYCAR released its 2019 schedule today featuring 17 events, a newly announced race and a new event finale. A focal point for INDYCAR has been maintaining date equity with racetracks. The 2019 IndyCar Series schedule accomplishes that with a pair of minor exceptions for good reason: • Barber Motorsports Park’s event shifts two weeks forward to Sunday, April 7. That early April date was the slot that the scenic permanent road course in Birmingham, Alabama, held on the schedule for the first four years of its nine-year run to date; • Iowa Speedway returns to a night race at the overwhelming request of fans on Saturday, July 20. It moves back on the calendar by two weeks. Next year’s IndyCar Series race will be the 13th on the bullring oval in Newton, Iowa. The Star Mazda Championship is the college baseball of Indy-style auto racing; a high- speed training ground for future stars of the sport. This is the second of two oval races on the 13-event 2009 schedule and the first event, at the Milwaukee Mile on June 20 was won by Scandinavian racer Anders Krohn who led from lap 27 to the checkered in his #27 Mundill / Trallfa / Colosseum Mazda. That performance makes him the leading contender in the Pizza Ranch 100 as well, but you also have to factor in that two of the top qualifiers, Andersen Racing teammates Englishman Richard Kent (a winner in Round 5 at New Jersey and on pole in the #33 Andersen Racing / Traka / Lafarge / Allied Interior Products Mazda) and American Conor Daly (winner in Round 4 at New Jersey and third on the starting grid driving the #22 Andersen Racing / College Network / Indeck / Cytomax Mazda) crashed together in the first turn of the first lap – thereby eliminating some potentially strong challengers.

On Saturday Jody Karam will be helping his 15-year-old son Sage participate in the USF2000 race at Iowa Speedway in Newton, which is about 113 miles from Dyersville, Iowa, where the film was shot. The movie, which was adapted from the novel “Shoeless Joe” by W.P. Kinsella, deals with taking risks to follow dreams, following through on blind faith, destiny, going the distance and the complicated relationships between fathers and sons. The fact that the Karams will be racing in Iowa on Fatherʼs Day weekend could be just a coincidence — or like so many things in the movie, perhaps itʼs not such a coincidence after all. m-o-r-e Field of Dreams/Page 2 of 4 Sage Karam goes into the fourth race of the series, which is presented by Cooper Tires and powered by Mazda, as the points leader. How he got in that position and the role his father played in his story is a plot that would appeal to movie-goers as well as sports fans.

With his third victory of the year the Andretti Autosport driver extended his lead in the Championship-classʼ point standings.
