14TH ANNUAL WHALE TALES EVENT SUMMARY PRESENTED BY WHALE TRUST 2020 A RITZ-CARLTON, KAPALUA SIGNATURE EVENT 800ATTENDEES Approximately 328 residents (41%) and 472 visitors (59%) attended Whale Tales sessions over three days. 486 STUDENTS The Whale Tales Education Program reached 486 students with school visits from the Whale Trust education team. 150 students from three schools also joined presenters at the opening day of Whale Tales for hands-on education opportunities. COMMUNITY 85 VOLUNTEERS Our volunteer team makes Whale Tales possible each year. More than 85 individuals mobilized to support all aspects of this year's event. WHALE 17 WATCHES In partnership with local whale watch companies that donate boats and crew to support the event, 17 benefit whale watches hosted by Whale Tales presenters provided on-the-water opportunities to experience whales firsthand with presenters. EXPERT 14 PRESENTERS Whale Tales 2020 showcased the latest in marine science, conservation, and award-winning photography in 12 sessions. MARINE SCIENCE 13 STATIONS The Whale Tales Marine Science Center featured 13 local organizations sharing educational opportunities for all ages to encourage ocean awareness and conservation. LOCAL BUSINESSES 12 AND ARTISTS Twelve local ocean-minded businesses and Maui-based artists exhibited during Whale Tales, donating a portion of sales in support of whale research. SPECIAL EVENTS & RECEPTIONS Special events and receptions are sponsored by individuals and businesses to celebrate the contributions of the Whale Tales sponsors, presenters, and team who make the event possible. 14TH ANNUAL WHALE TALES In partnership with The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, Whale Trust presented the 14th Annual Whale Tales event February 14-17, 2020 on Maui. Whale Tales is a unique opportunity for Maui residents and visitors to hear firsthand what marine scientists are studying. The 4-day event features expert presentations, benefit whale watches with presenters, marine photography and films, and opportunities to network with world- FINANCIAL REPORT renowned authorities in whale research. All proceeds raised support whale research, education, and conservation efforts in Hawaii.
