IC Australia were invited to New Zealand in November 2017, but there were not sufficient numbers of our members available to form a team for these dates. We remain committed to rekindling our Trans-Tasman relations and rivalry, so hope to make alternate plans soon!

We did not field teams at the IC Week in Berlin, nor in the official IC teams events such as Windmill and Mercellis Cups, Potter Cup and La Carreta. Our Club participating in these important IC events remains a goal over the coming years.

10 International Tennis Club of Australia — Annual Report 2017 IC EVENTS 2017

JANUARY 2017: HOPMAN CUP FUNCTION, Perth January 4 The IC kicked off the year with the annual Hopman Cup afternoon function, sharing good food, drinks and tennis news. Always a popular event, the speaker was outgoing President Paul McNamee, with and Gary Penberthy joining a panel discussion. Also in attendance, the legendary , and our Treasurer Noel Jensen. A brilliant session of tennis at Perth Arena topped off another successful gathering of our West Australian chapter, so ably organised by Helen Muir and her committee members, including Christine Dorey and Allan Wall.

JANUARY 2017: ANNUAL TENNIS DAY AND LUNCH Royal South Yarra LTC January 25 Melbourne’s ICA annual tennis day was well attended, with Tennis Australia guests, All England Club representatives, and IC of Czech Republic players. It was also great to welcome Jenny Hoad and her daughter Jane taking to the court in a mother-daughter matchup against Maureen and Kerryn Pratt. Our youngest member Lauren Breadmore played some outstanding tennis, as did Dianne Evers.

Thanks to match captain Victor Eke for his organisation. After the morning’s tennis, RSY put on a wonderful BBQ lunch where honorary secretary Steve Myers welcomed members and guests. Others in attendance included the President of the IC of Slovenia, Marko Mlakar, former TA President Geoff Pollard and former player Lisa O’Neill.

JANUARY 2017: ICA ANNUAL LUNCH Kooyong LTC January 29 The ICA annual lunch was held in conjunction with Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club’s 125 year anniversary celebrations, and a wonderful day was had by the 180 guests, our highest attendance to date. With the evergreen Cedric Mason at the microphone, other speakers were our newly elected President Geoff Masters, Kooyong President Peter Carew and CEO Chris Brown, introducing a video history of Kooyong. Further entertainment was provided by magician Anthony de Masi, who was coached (in tennis, not magic!) by Victor Eke as a youngster. We were privileged to have IC patron and legend Frank Sedgman there, along with greats Margaret Court, Neale Fraser and many other former players. Also attending, prominent international and Tennis Australia guests, including TA President Steve Healy, USTA President , French President Jean Gachassin and All England Club Chairman Phillip Brook. Thanks to Cedric for again excelling as MC, to Kooyong for helping to make this a great day, and to the Committee members who put the Melbourne events together, notably Mandy Morgan, Steve Myers, Victor Eke and Carol O’Sullivan.

JULY 2017: IC ANNUAL WIMBLEDON DINNER at Kooyong 16 JULY 2017 The traditional Wimbledon gathering at Kooyong on mens finals night had a special focus this year, alongside the usual social and fun aspects long promoted by Patron Frank Sedgman and his wonderful wife Jean. Just over one hundred IC members and their guests attended the evening, a tribute to the ailing former player Peter Doohan, raising funds to assist him and his family. 27 auction items were on offer, resulting in more than $10,000 being raised.

There was lively chat all night - Ann Wooldridge brought along her racquet from 1953 Wimbledon and Frank reminisced about the triple crown that he won at Wimbledon 65 years ago...singles, doubles and mixed, what an amazing achievement!

Victor Eke was MC, spoke about Peter as a person and a player, noting his big Wimbledon upset win over in 1987. Peter’s great mate also paid emotional tribute to his doubles partner.

Too unwell to travel or speak, Peter was able to watch some of the evening online and was very pleased to have been honoured by his colleagues, knowing he was in the thoughts and prayers of our tennis family. There was, many said, a lot of love in the room.

Thanks to everyone for attending, Tennis Australia for their support, Kooyong for being marvellous hosts, those who donated auction items and to the Melbourne-based IC Committee members led by Victor and Mandy for their organisation.

Sadly Peter Doohan passed away less than a week after the dinner, succumbing to the dreaded Motor Neurone Disease.

SEPTEMBER 2017: ROYAL PINES IC WEEKEND Gold Coast September 1 Noel Jensen and Dianne Evers enticed a great bunch of people together for the second edition of the IC Royal Pines weekend. It was an afternoon of social tennis on the centre courts at this boutique tennis venue, followed by a most enjoyable dinner.

Daphne and Trevor Fancutt came along to socialise, while Noel, Dianne, Jenny Dimond, Kerryn Pratt, Cathy Letcher and Geoff Masters were among those out on court. Our greats Ken Rosewall and Frank Sedgman presented new members Wayne Hampson, Graham Thams and Max Bates with their IC ties. Amongst those at the dinner were Jane Taylor, Amanda Tobin Chaplin, Dale Collings, and Victorian-based Committee members Ken Barton and Carol O’Sullivan.

Noel was our host, President Geoff Masters gave a short welcome, there was animated conversation all night, a fun trivia game, and great stories told by Ken and Frank! Priceless! Credit to Noel and Dianne for their efforts in making this such a successful event.
