After a somewhat unexpected win, Liam Broady (GBR) says, “I beat him the last time we played, so I was pretty confident going into this match, especially after qualifying and beating the number 4 seed first round, but I know he's a good player so I was ready for a battle too.” Meanwhile playing on center court, number 5 seed, Mikhail Kukushkin (KAZ) battled it out with wildcard winner, Dennis Novikov (USA) to result in a 6-7(3), 7-6(3) 6-3 win for Mikhail Kukushkin (KAZ). Directly following this match, 20-year-old Alexander Bublik (KAZ) handedly defeated Henri Laaksonen (SUI), resulting in a final score of 6-1, 6-1. Tonights match featured Raymond Sarmiento (USA), who pulled through with a three-set victory against 20-year-old Quentin Halys (FRA). Raymond Sarmiento (USA) will now go on to play Liam Broady (GBR) in the quarterfinals tomorrow Friday, August 11th on center court not before 1:30pm. Directly following this match will be two Australian players, Sam Groth (AUS) and formerly the number 7 ranked junior player in the world Akira Santillan (AUS) who lived his first 8 years of his life in Japan, before his family relocated to the Gold Coast and became citizens of Australia. Tomorrow’s Feature match, an all-American quarterfinals will include 19-year-old Taylor Fritz (USA) who has a career high ranking of 53 last August and number 6 seed, Tennys Sandgren (USA).
