Food Decides your Innings

Shridhar Dwivedi Senior Consultant Cardiologist National Heart Institute, New Delhi -110065, India Email: [email protected]

Preamble: Non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, coronary artery disease (heart attack), hypertension, stroke and cancers have emerged as an epidemic in entire world. They are said to be a major cause of mortality and morbidity across the globe. Faulty diets filled with chemicals, pesticides and environmental pollutants is one of the principal factors responsible for above epidemic. Fruits, vegetables and other natural foods are healthy options to mitigate these diseases. Highlighting these issues is the following poem – ‘Food decides your innings’.

Food as medicine, Medicine as food, Nectar or poison, Thy choice evil or good. II1II

An apple a day, Keeps doctor at bay, Burger Samosa a day, Fatty sugary all way I Goose berry papaya pomegranate, Black plum fenugreek coarse grain lemon, Tomato turmeric garlic onion, Ginger clove curry leaves in Kitchen. II

Green veg or red meat, Plenty fruits or junk, Stay slim sleek or fat Pink health or sunk. II2II

Flat tummy big tummy, Look healthy or funny, Fighting fit or dummy, Option yours dear honey II3II

Agile long life still running, Stay in ICCU on ventilators, Look charming gracious & stunning, Food decides your innings.

Report of the International Symposium On Cellular Therapy in Cardiovascular Medicine: Stem Cells Opportunity, Turkey

Medicine and Fellow of IACS) and Dr. Kamil C. Akcali (Professor in Ankara University Stem Cell Institute).

Being in the content of the general mission of the IACS to promote research, scientific education and interaction of scientists in the field of cardiovascular science, the main goal of this symposium was to address the present state of research, as regards to stem cell therapy for cardiovascular disease. It is well known that cardiovascular disorders are the primary cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide, at most representing a group of alterations associated with improper cardiac function. Despite considerable improvements in the understanding of the pathologic mechanisms of those diseases, the majority of the currently available therapies remain, at best, to be limited. Besides, some therapeutic approaches offer direct tissue repair and regeneration, whereas the majority of those treatment approaches focus on limiting scar formation to improve the myocardial Opening address by Dr. Belma Turan function. Of all the existing therapeutic approaches, the cardiac tissue pathology is usually addressed by heart An international scientific symposium was held in transplantation. Nevertheless, a stem cell therapy, Ankara-Turkey entitled as "An International Symposium particularly, has emerged as a novel and promising on Cellular Therapy in Cardiovascular Medicine: Stem approach for cardiovascular disorders. This approach Cells Opportunity” during Oct 30-Nov 1, 2019. The involves the transplantation of healthy and functional cells symposium was organized by the Ankara University to promote the renewal of damaged cells and repair School of Medicine and Stem Cell Institute under the injured tissue. With this aim, preclinical and clinical auspices of Prof. Naranjan S. Dhalla on the behalf of investigations have been extended to the use of various International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences populations of stem cells in therapy of cardiovascular (IACS).
