Jortner, PhD University of Pittsburgh, 2005 This dissertation, prepared towards the completion of a Ph.D. in Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of Pittsburgh, examines “Yankee Theatre” in America and London through a post-colonial lens from 1787 to 1855. Actors under consideration include: Charles Mathews, James Hackett, George Hill, Danforth Marble and Joshua Silsbee. These actors were selected due to their status as iconic performers in “Yankee Theatre.” The Post-Revolutionary period in America was filled with questions of national identity. Much of American culture came directly from England. American citizens read English books, studied English texts in school, and watched English theatre. They were inundated with English culture and unsure of what their own civilization might look like.

A R C H O N S HIDDEN RULERS THROUGH THE AGES A R C H O N S HIDDEN RULERS THROUGH THE AGES WATCH THIS IMPORTANT VIDEO UFOs, Aliens, and the Question of Contact MUST-SEE THE OCCULT REASON FOR PSYCHOPATHY Organic Portals: Aliens and Psychopaths KNOWLEDGE THROUGH GNOSIS Boris Mouravieff - GNOSIS IN THE BEGINNING ...1 The Gnostic core belief was a strong dualism: that the world of matter was deadening and inferior to a remote nonphysical home, to which an interior divine spark in most humans aspired to return after death. This led them to an absorption with the Jewish creation myths in Genesis, which they obsessively reinterpreted to formulate allegorical explanations of how humans ended up trapped in the world of matter. The basic Gnostic story, which varied in details from teacher to teacher, was this: In the beginning there was an unknowable, immaterial, and invisible God, sometimes called the Father of All and sometimes by other names. “He” was neither male nor female, and was composed of an implicitly finite amount of a living nonphysical substance. Surrounding this God was a great empty region called the Pleroma (the fullness). Beyond the Pleroma lay empty space. The God acted to fill the Pleroma through a series of emanations, a squeezing off of small portions of his/its nonphysical energetic divine material. In most accounts there are thirty emanations in fifteen complementary pairs, each getting slightly less of the divine material and therefore being slightly weaker. The emanations are called Aeons (eternities) and are mostly named personifications in Greek of abstract ideas.

HOW SUPERMAN DEVELOPED INTO A JESUS FIGURE CRISIS ON INFINITE TEXTS: HOW SUPERMAN DEVELOPED INTO A JESUS FIGURE By ROBERT REVINGTON, B.A., M.A. A Thesis Submitted to the School of Graduate Studies in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Arts McMaster University © Copyright by Robert Revington, September 2018 MA Thesis—Robert Revington; McMaster University, Religious Studies McMaster University MASTER OF ARTS (2018) Hamilton, Ontario, Religious Studies TITLE: Crisis on Infinite Texts: How Superman Developed into a Jesus Figure AUTHOR: Robert Revington, B.A., M.A (McMaster University) SUPERVISOR: Professor Travis Kroeker NUMBER OF PAGES: vi, 143 ii MA Thesis—Robert Revington; McMaster University, Religious Studies LAY ABSTRACT This thesis examines the historical trajectory of how the comic book character of Superman came to be identified as a Christ figure in popular consciousness. It argues that this connection was not integral to the character as he was originally created, but was imposed by later writers over time and mainly for cinematic adaptations. This thesis also tracks the history of how Christians and churches viewed Superman, as the film studios began to exploit marketing opportunities by comparing Superman and Jesus. This thesis uses the methodological framework of intertextuality to ground its treatment of the sources, but does not follow all of the assumptions of intertextual theorists. iii MA Thesis—Robert Revington; McMaster University, Religious Studies ABSTRACT This thesis examines the historical trajectory of how the comic book character of Superman came to be identified as a Christ figure in popular consciousness. Superman was created in 1938, but the character developed significantly from his earliest incarnations.

exhibition hall 15 the weird west exhibition hall - november 2010 chris garcia - editor, ariane wolfe - fashion editor james bacon - london bureau chief, ric flair - whooooooooooo! contact can be made at [email protected] Well, October was one of the stronger months for Steampunk in the public eye. No conventions in October, which is rare these days, but there was the Steampunk Fortnight on Tor.com. They had some seriously good stuff, including writing from Diana Vick, who also appears in these pages, and myself! There was a great piece from Nisi Shawl that mentioned the amazing panel that she, Liz Gorinsky, Michael Swanwick and Ann VanderMeer were on at World Fantasy last year. Jaymee Goh had a piece on Commodification and Post-Modernism that was well-written, though slightly troubling to me. Stephen Hunt’s Steampunk Timeline was good stuff, and the omnipresent GD Falksen (who has never written for us!) had a couple of good piece. Me? I wrote an article about how Tomorrowland was the signpost for the rise of Steampunk. You can read it at http://www.tor.com/blogs/2010/10/goodbye-tomorrow- hello-yesterday. The second piece is all about an amusement park called Gaslight in New Orleans. I’ll let you decide about that one - http://www.tor.com/blogs/2010/10/gaslight- amusement. The final one all about The Cleveland Steamers. This much attention is a good thing for Steampunk, especially from a site like Tor.com, a gateway for a lot of SF readers who aren’t necessarily a part of fandom.

Original Title. I love seeing the whole trio of Oracle, Black Canary, and Huntress working together. Over the years, she has worked on live-action television, film, animation, videogames, comic books, graphic novels, manga, and non- fiction educational books. Mari 'Vixen' McCabe was sent initially as undercover operative, but has she been irreversibly 'turned' by the group? The volumes ends with an intrusion of a comic event which leaves the Clock Tower destroyed not collected in this volum,e merely summarized and inferred. At least now Batgirl is on her own again. Each character has their own unique personality and something special they bring to the team in terms of skills, as well as through social interactions. I admire Gail Simone's skill in keeping the story trucking along with the non-stop action and suspense. Welcome back. Brainiac shows up for a pretty cool showdown. I'm sooo not into Condor as Black Canary's love interest. Jul 25, Nate rated it really liked it. She was taken in and mentored by the owner of a dojo who felt sorry for her, trained in martial arts, and finally left the studio on his passi Bye Bye Birdie s On top that, this particular story arc isn't particularly interesting: Condor brooding over Black Canary who is brooding over her comatose husband.
