OFFICIAL RULES “Nuggets Media Day Contest” Sponsored by The OFFICIAL RULES “Nuggets Media Day Contest” Sponsored by the Denver Nuggets NO PURCHASE IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN A PRIZE; A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED OR RESTRICTED BY LAW. 1. Eligibility. The Denver Nuggets’ “Nuggets Media Day Contest” (“Contest”) is open only to legal residents of the state of Colorado who are eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of entry (each an “Eligible Entrant”). Employees, officers and directors (including immediate family members (spouse, domestic partner, child, sibling, parent and their respective spouses/domestic partners, regardless of where they reside) and members of the same household, whether or not related) of Sponsor (defined below); Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, LLC (“KSE”); Formstack, LLC; reddit, inc.; the National Basketball Association and its member teams; NBA Properties, Inc.; and each of their respective parents, affiliated companies, subsidiaries, licensees, divisions, advertising and promotion agencies, and any and all other companies associated with the Contest (collectively, the “Contest Entities”) are not eligible to participate or win the Grand Prize. The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations. Void where prohibited or restricted by law, rule or regulation. Participation constitutes entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules and Sponsor’s decisions, which are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest, including but not limited to the administration and operation of the Contest and the selection of the potential Winners. Winning a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein. 2. Contest Period. The Contest begins on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 8:00 a.m. local Denver time and ends September 5, 2014 at 11:59 p.m. local Denver time (the “Contest Period”). All entries (submissions) must be received by Sponsor by the end of the Contest Period to be part of the Contest. Sponsor reserves the right to extend or shorten the Contest Period at its sole discretion, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest for any reason in Sponsor’s sole discretion. Sponsor’s clock shall, for all purposes, be the official clock of the Contest. 3. How to Enter. Each Eligible Entrant may enter the Contest once during the Contest Period. The following describes the entry process: Entrants must (i) leave a comment on the /r/DenverNuggets reddit thread (Eligible Entrants will be required to establish a free reddit account in order to leave a comment); and (ii) complete the entry form in its entirety at http://nba.com/nuggets/contest/reddit-media-day-contest, which, among other things will require you to answer the following questions (character limitations may apply): (1) What is your favorite Denver sports moment? (2) Who is you favorite Nugget and why? (3) Why should we choose you to be the Nuggets official reddit reporter for a day? All comments, answers and information you provide as part of the entry process is referred to herein as the “Submission.” In the event of a dispute, entries will be deemed made by the authorized account holder of the reddit account associated with a Submission. The “authorized account holder” is deemed the natural person who is assigned the account by reddit. No other form of entry will be accepted other than those specified above. It is solely the responsibility of the entrant to notify the Sponsor in writing if the entrant changes any information that may be needed by Sponsor to contact the Eligible Entrant in the event he or she is selected as a potential Winner. Sponsor is not responsible for late, lost, illegible, damaged, misdirected, incomplete or otherwise invalid entries. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any entry that it deems, in its sole discretion, to be a violation of the Official Rules. 4. Winner Determination. After the Contest Period ends, all Submissions from Eligible Entrants will be judged by representatives of reddit and Sponsor, (“Judges”) based on the following judging criteria: how well the winning submission reflects the Eligible Entrants’ social media prowess, grasp of reddit and reddit live, passion and awareness of the Denver sports atmosphere and history and availability to attend the Nuggets 2014 Media Day. (“Judging Criteria”). The Submission with the highest aggregate score will be determined to be potential Grand Prize Winner (subject to verification and compliance with these Official Rules) and the submission with the next highest score will be the potential Runner-Up. The Judges reserve the right to conduct interviews with any entrant. The application of the Judging Criteria shall be in the sole and absolute discretion of the Judges. In the event of a tie or dispute or for any other reason that Sponsor deems necessary, the tied Submissions will be re-judged by Judges based on Judging Criteria and, if the Submissions receive remain tied after the re-judging, the potential Grand Prize Winner or Runner-Up, as applicable, will be randomly selected from the Submissions being re-judged. In the event that more than one entrant independently submits the same winning Submission, the entrant that posted the Submission first will be determined to be the Grand Prize Winner or Runner-Up, as applicable. Contest Entities and Judges disclaim any liability from any entrant and entrants agree to waive any claims against Contest Entities and Judges relating to the judging or awarding process. Eligible Entrants acknowledges and agrees that Sponsor may receive many Submissions in connection with this Contest and that some Submissions may be very similar in content, idea, theme, or in other respects to other Submissions received or submitted. Entrant waives any and all claims entrant may have had, may have and/or may have in the future, that any Submission in this Contest is similar to his/her Submission, or that any compensation is due to entrant in connection with such Submission. In addition, Sponsor will randomly select twenty-five (25) Eligible Entrants who will each win a reddit gold membership for one (1) month. 5. Winner Contact. Sponsor will attempt to contact the potential winners via direct message on reddit within twenty-four (24) hours after a potential winner is selected. If said potential winner cannot be reached during the twenty-four (24) hour period or fails to respond within seven (7) calendar days after said e-mail is delivered, such potential winner will be disqualified from receiving the prize and a new potential winner will be randomly selected from all remaining Eligible Entrants and contacted; provided that in the case of the potential Grand Prize Winner and Runner-Up, the Eligible Entrants with the Submission(s) with the next highest scores will be contacted. Alternative potential winners will have twenty-four (24) hours from delivery of the contact message to respond or he or she will be disqualified and a new potential winner will be selected. Such process will continue until Sponsor contacts a potential winner who returns Sponsor’s message and such individual will be a Winner. At all times, Sponsor reserves to right to select an alternate winner in the event that a winner is found to have not complied with these Official Rules. 6. Grand Prize; Prize Terms. The Grand Prize Winner will receive an official NBA game ball signed by a Nuggets player (as selected by Sponsor) and will be the official Nuggets reddit reporter for the Nuggets 2014 Media Day (ARV of the ball = $350.00) (the “Grand Prize”). With respect to the Grand Prize Winner’s reporting, all content posted by him or her will be subject to the Submission guidelines described below. The Runner-Up will receive a two (2) tickets to the Denver Nuggets’ 2014-25 home opener (specific seat locations determined solely by Sponsor) and an authentic Denver Nuggets jersey (ARV = $260.00). Each reddit gold subscription has a value of $3.99. Total approximate retail value of all prizes is $610.00. The right to receive a prize is non-transferable and non-assignable. No cash redemption of any prize is permitted except at Sponsor’s sole and absolute discretion. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute any prize (or any portion thereof) with one of comparable or greater value at its sole and absolute discretion. All costs and expenses associated with the Grand Prize acceptance and use not specified herein as being provided, such as by way of example but not limited to, transportation costs, parking, food and beverages, gratuities and other expenses incurred by accepting and making use of the Grand Prize are the sole responsibility of the Winner (and Winner’s guests, as applicable). All federal, state, or local taxes associated with the Grand Prize are each Winner's responsibility. A form 1099 may be issued based on the value of the prize as required by law. Winner and Winner’s guests may be required to execute and return any required affidavit of eligibility and/or liability/publicity release. To the extent requested, all such forms will be completed and returned within twenty-four (24) hours or Sponsor may disqualify the Winner and select and alternate Winner. 7. Submission Guidelines. Submissions must be the original work of the Eligible Entrant, must have been created specifically for Contest. A Submission must not include, depict or make reference to any of the following: obscenity, inappropriate language, nudity, sexual explicitness, drug or alcohol use, violence, firearms/weapons, commercial

This thesis seeks to expand upon this well known notion and use it as part of an empirical analysis of the determinants of local demand for NBA franchises. This paper starts by focusing on the traditional notion of competitive balance, with specific regard to the sport basketball and the National Basketball Association specifically. It then quantifies the degree of competitive balance in the NBA since 1990 using metrics similar to those used by Quirk and Fort in their 1992 book Pay Dirt: The Business of Professional Team Sports. An extensive amount of linear regression analysis is then conducted, first looking at all teams and then teams belonging to certain market types. The empirical results indicate that competitive balance is not a significant determinant of local demand. The results also indicate key differences in the determinants between low-income market teams and high-income market teams. I make two recommendations as to how the NBA could beneficially alter its business model based upon these regression results: abolishing guaranteed contracts and changing the 100/0 home/away gate split.
