    Late 1960's - Early 1970's The birth of heavy metal. Groups like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple were the first heavy metal bands. Late 1970's The rise of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest become very popular. 1978 Van Halen released their debut album. This began the Los Angeles/Sunset Strip scene, and many bands would come out of this era, including Motley Crue and Quiet Riot. The so called "hair bands" like Poison, Warrant and Ratt came from that scene as well. The Who's Keith Moon died. Bands formed this year: Dokken, Ratt, Whitesnake A sample of heavy metal albums released in 1978: Black Sabbath - Never Say Die Judas Priest - Stained Class UFO - Obsession 1979 The German band Accept releases their self-titled debut album. They are considered to be the first European power metal band. Ozzy Osbourne was fired from Black Sabbath and replaced by Ronnie James Dio. Bands formed this year: Europe, Hanoi Rocks, Trouble and Venom. Abstract The reasons and peculiarities of the occurrence of heavy metal as a musical genre, its influence on other genres and on society as a whole are researched. It also traced how the genre evolved and changed over its lifetime. Keywords: heavy metal, rock, guitar, rock band, guitar solo. Introduction Metal(or heavy metal) is a genre of rock music that includes such styles that are virtuosic, powerful, and intense. Heavy metal has roots in blues rock, psychedelic rock, and acid rock and characterized with a thick, massive aggressive sound, highly emphatic beats, extended guitar solos, dense bass-and-drum sound, vigorous vocals, amplified distortion, and overall loudness. Metal developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and now it have millions of fans called "headbangers" or "metalheads". Although early heavy metal bands such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Deep Purple attracted large audiences, they were often critically reviled at the time, a status common throughout the history of the genre. In the mid-1970s, Judas Priest helped spur the genre's evolution by discarding much of its blues influence. To mention one of these bands in conversation is to mentally conjure a musical identity, a fellowship of fans and of multiple inspired acts. Killswitch Engage has become one such entity. Built organically from the most potent components of melodic, heavy and catchy-as-hell European death metal and the almost spiritual essence of the most grimy, urgent and forever yearning American hardcore, the brilliantly individual and self-described “Massholes” in Killswitch (as fans often abbreviate it) have come to define a generational shift equal parts inevitable and by design, as cultural earthquakes and uprisings often are. Juni 2018 – Berlin, Waldbühne – Legacy Of The Beast Tour, Support: KILLSWITCH ENGAGE - Text und Fotos: Holger Ott Ed Force One ist wieder in Berlin gelandet und im Bauch der riesigen Maschine sind IRON MAIDEN, die sich auf Legacy Of The Beast Tour in Europa befinden. Inzwischen ist die Band so was wie ein Stammgast in der Hauptstadt und die Spielstätte in der Berliner Waldbühne ist die Gleiche, wie beim letzten Mal. Vor zwei Jahren wurden sie noch mit Lob überhäuft und mal sehen, wie es heute Abend läuft. Die Briten sind ja ein Garant für einen mitreißenden Konzertabend. Im Vorprogramm aus Boston USA stehen erst einmal KILLSWICH ENGAGE auf der Bühne. Bereits beim ersten Ton von Sänger JESSE LEACH frage ich mich, wer dafür verantwortlich ist, dass die Amerikaner den Support spielen. Der Gesang ist einfach unterirdisch und die Musik in der härtesten Metal Gangart. Sicher sind im Publikum genügend Leute, die das geil finden und im Nu bildet sich vor der Bühne sogar eine Mosh-Pit. Headbanging auf der Bühne und im Publikum. Tut mir leid, wenn das nicht mein Geschmack ist und es auch nie war und geschweige je werden wird. Nein, ich bin für diese Musik nicht zu alt, es ist einfach nur nicht meins. Ich zücke meine Setliste aus der Tasche und überlege, wie lange ich das jetzt noch ertragen muss. Elf Songs werden geboten und zum Glück werden die so schnell heruntergedroschen, dass es gerade mal fünfundvierzig Minuten dauert, bis ich davon erlöst werde. Mein kleiner Hoffnungsschimmer liegt auf dem letzten Werk "Holy Diver", den die Band von "R.I.P." DIO covert.
