The 3-2 home win also ended a four-game losing streak versus ranked foes, giving the Colonials their first such victory on the Island since VOLUNTEER ASSISTANT Matt Herr February 2013, when they downed No. 15 Niagara in overtime. (twice), Cody Wydo ‘15 twice), Greg Gibson ‘16 (twice), Zac Lynch ‘16 and Adam Brace ‘13. #RaiseABanner MUSKET SHOTS IN GOOD STANDING(S) Although Robert Morris didn’t earn a first-round bye in the Atlantic Hockey playoffs for the first time since 2013-14, the Colonials’ seventh- place finish in the regular season wasn’t uncharted territory. The 2011-12 team also came in seventh of 11 AHA teams. RMU has finished fifth or better in six of its eight seasons in the league. ALL GOOD THINGS ... The Colonials’ 18-20-3 record in 2017-18 ended a streak of five straight winning seasons and seven consecutive seasons at .500 or better. From 2010-17, Robert Morris went a collective 52 games over .500, highlighted by a pair of 24-win seasons that also garnered Atlantic Hockey regular- season championships. 412 CREW As has been the case every year since the program’s start in 2004-05, the Colonials will be showing off local hockey talent. Freshman forward Aiden Beck (Coraopolis) joins juniors Luke Lynch (Shaler Township) and Jacob Coleman (Moon Township) on the ‘Burgh-born list. GAME RECOGNIZES GAME Robert Morris was once again well-represented in the preseason polls. Atlantic Hockey coaches predicted RMU would finish third of 11 teams, while league media settled on a fourth-place finish. Additionally, the Colonials placed three players on the preseason all-AHA second team: Goalie Francis Marotte, winger Alex Tonge and winger Luke Lynch. BYE BYE, BRADY With Brady Ferguson playing in the pros, Robert Morris will have to acclimate to life without their all-time leading scorer. Ferguson contributed 167 points to the Colonials’ cause from 2014-18, passing former teammates Cody Wydo ‘15 (150 points) and Zac Lynch ‘16 (156 points) in the process. Ferguson is also RMU’s all-time best assist man, with 101. The nearest Colonial in that category is ‘11 (91). DEJA VU, TO A POINT Prior to the 5-1 loss to Air Force in the Atlantic Hockey title game, the Colonials’ playoff run last spring closely mirrored the 2013-14 team’s run to the championship. Just like in ‘14, the ‘18 Colonials survived a three-game first-round series at home (vs. Bentley), then went on the road to sweep a higher-seeded opponent (at Holy Cross) before winning a thrilling winner-take-all semifinal in overtime (vs. Mercyhurst). O-H-I-O With the addition of freshman forward Aidan Spellacy to the team, the Colonials can claim a pair of Buckeye State natives. Sophomore defenseman Nick Jenny hails from Strongsville, Ohio, while Spellacy grew up in the Cleveland suburb of Lakewood. I WAS A RIVERHAWK IN MY PAST LIFE Redshirt senior forward Michael Louria transferred to RMU from UMass Lowell prior to his junior season. The Michigan native spent two seasons competing in Hockey East. Louria put up 24 points (10 goals) in two seasons as a RiverHawk, playing in 51 games total. In fact, one of Louria’s assists for UMass Lowell was scored in a losing effort against Robert Morris in the 2015 Three Rivers Classic title game. GETTING LOOKS Two Colonials were invited to NHL development camps in the summer of 2018. Brady Ferguson ‘18, who previously impressed at Penguins prospect camp in 2017, took the ice for Maple Leafs development drills and also made an appearance at Toronto’s main training camp in September. Francis Marotte, meanwhile, put his talents on display at Capitals development camp in Washington, D.C., one year after doing the same in Vancouver for the Canucks’ brass. OH, BROTHERS Junior Luke Lynch and freshman Grant Hebert represent the continuation of a Colonials tradition. Luke is the younger brother of former offensive standout Zac Lynch ‘16; the duo from Shaler is the fourth set of brothers to pull on the RMU uniform, along with Evan ‘16 and Timmy Moore ‘18, Rob ‘08 and Dave Cowan ‘10, and Furman ‘12 and Colin South ‘14. Hebert’s younger brother Caleb has officially committed to play for RMU. HALL WORTHY In February 2019, Denny Urban ‘11 will become the third men’s hockey player to be inducted into the Robert Morris Athletics Hall of Fame. Urban, who scored an incredible 112 points (28 goals, 84 assists) from the RMU blue line, will join Chris Margott ‘09 and Nathan Longpre ‘11 in sharing this prestigious all-sport honor.

TRADING STICKS FOR WHISTLES Multiple program alums have now joined the pro officiating ranks. Both Furman South ‘12 and Brandon Blandina ‘12 have refereed games at the NHL and American Hockey League levels, with South making his regular-season NHL debut last April. Blandina reffed in the 2018 NHL preseason. Also, Denny Urban ‘11 is working up the ranks as a junior-level official. HIGH WATT-AGE Senior winger Brandon Watt was named team captain prior to the 2018-19 season, taking that mantle from defenseman Alex Bontje ‘18. Watt will be assisted by Alex Tonge and Luke Lynch. All three players are wearing letters for the first time in their collegiate careers. ON THE AIR For the sixth straight season, all Colonials home games will be broadcast live on 970 ESPN, or online at espnpgh.com. Tim Benz (play-by-play) and Mike Prisuta (analysis) return as the broadcast duo at Colonials Arena. Additionally, Matt Gajtka will have an audio play-by-play call for select road games on Facebook Live, with the RMU men’s hockey Facebook page (facebook.com/RMUMHockey) hosting those. #ColonialPride
