2015 CLEVELAND CAVALIERS PLAYOFF NOTES

PLAYOFF HISTORY: Cleveland is back in the NBA Finals for the 2nd time in franchise history (2007). The Cavs are 82-81 all-time in the postseason, including 53-28 at home. Since 2006, the Cavs are 32-10 during the playoffs at Quicken Loans Arena.

DEFENSIVE TENACITY: The Cavaliers have displayed a strong defensive performance in this year’s playoffs, holding teams to under 100 points in 11 of the 15 contests. Check out the Cavs overall defensive numbers so far in this year’s postseason:  OPP. PPG: The Wine and Gold are giving up 93.6 points, which is the 2nd-lowest of all 16 playoff teams.  OPP. FG%: Cleveland has the one of the top defensive field goal percentage among all teams in the playoffs at .415 (2 nd overall).  STOPPING THE BULLS: In the Eastern Conference Semifinals, Cleveland held Chicago to just .401 shooting from the field. The Cavs held Chicago to u nder .400 shooting in each of the final four contests. The four consecutive games holding an opponent to under .400 shooting set a new franchise playoff record. The last team to hold an opponent to under .400 shooting in four or more consecutive playoff games was the (four straight from April 21-29, 2014). In Game 6, the Bulls scored 31 points in the first quarter but were held to just 42 points over the final three periods. But the Cavs became only the second of those nine teams to earn each of those victories by at least eight points, with the other such instance coming in the 1947 playoffs, in the first season of the Basketball Association of Americ a, the forerunner of the NBA. In 1947, the playoff format called for the regular-season champions from the East and the West (the Washington Capitols and the Chicago Stags, respectively) to meet in a best-of-seven series, with the winner advancing to the Finals against the survivor of playoff competition involving four other teams. LONG DISTANCE SHOOTING: From May 14-26, Cleveland hit at least 10 three-pointers in five straight postseason games for the first time in franchise playoff history.

DOING THE DIRTY WORK: In his first career postseason, Tristan Thompson is averaging 10.2 rebounds (2nd highest on the team), to go along with 8. 9 points on a team-best .576 shooting and 1.3 blocks in 35.2 minutes per game. As a starter this postseason (last 10 games), he has five double-doubles and is averaging 10.1 points on .565 shooting, 11.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 38.9 minutes.

 In the Game 6 victory against Chicago on May 14, Thompson had 13 points, 17 rebounds (six offensive) and two blocks in 40 min utes of work. RARE AIR: In the Game 3 win over Atlanta in the ECF on May 24, LeBron James collected his first triple-double of the 2015 playoffs (12th in postseason career) after recording game-highs of 37 points, 18 rebounds (career-high eight offensive) and 13 assists, to go along with three steals in 47 minutes. James becomes the first player in NBA postseason history to put together a stat line of at least 37 points, 18 rebounds and 13 assists. The last player to have that stat line in any game was Philadelphia’s (53 points, 32 rebounds and 14 assists), who did it in a regular season contest against Los A ngeles on 3/18/68. ROCKIN’ THE Q: The Cavaliers sold out each of their 41 regular season home games in 2014-15 at Quicken Loans Arena, including each game so far in this year’s playoffs. The Cavs opened the 2014-15 season at The Q on Oct. 30 against the New York Knicks, which was their 10th straight home opener sellout, as well as the 300th regular season sellout at The Q. To date, including regular season (340) and playoffs (42), there have been 382 sellouts at The Q.

TH 10 ANNUAL AUSTIN CARR GOOD GUY AWARD: Cavaliers forward LeBron James was the recipient of the 10th annual Austin Carr Good Guy Award, presented by the local chapter of the Pro Basketball Writers Association (PBWA). The award, named after Cavaliers legend Austin Carr, is designed to recognize a Cavaliers player who is cooperative and understanding of the media. Carr, who played nine seasons with the Cavaliers, was the No. 1 pick of the 1971 NBA Draft by Cleveland and was selected by 32 members of the media in Northeast Ohio to the Cavaliers All-Time Starting Five during the Cavaliers 30th anniversary season in 1999-2000.
