OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES OF E- TAILING IN

ABSTRACT

As continues to get strongly integrated with the new economy riding the waves of globalization, the sector is bound to take big leaps in the years to come. a rising star at the beginning of a growth cycle, with consumer spending increasing at a strong rate, and people seeking and demanding a better quality of life. The liberalized market environment is providing a revolutionary change in the retail market in India. The emergence of organized retailing in the retail market scene is very significant in the recent past. Organized retailing is witness a wave of players entering the industry. The entry of foreign players will not only affect the ownership, but also change the basics of business. Indian’s vast middle class and its almost untapped retail industry are key attractions for global retail giants wanting to enter the newer market. The paper highlights various problems of e-tailing in Kerala such as absence of personalization, issues in customer service and distribution, handling returns, off line presence, language problems, issues in mode of payment, security issue, issues in portal design and legal issues. To ensure a positive outcome, attention to the factors identified in the suggested framework is important for the effective functioning of the e-tailing. If this study provokes the people concerned to take some positive measures in order to improve it, the researchers will feel amply rewarded.
