In she became the first woman elected to the Royal Scottish Academy. Phoebe was the sixth of their seven children. Phoebe's elder brother was William Richardson Moss, a keen art collector who owned a number of Phoebe Anna Traquair: 1852-1936 by Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Traquair shared with her brother this love of art, including a particular fascination with the work of Rossetti and that of William Blakeand her style and choice of subject matter remained deeply influenced by Blake and Rossetti's art and poetry throughout her life. During the late s Traquair continued to develop her art, working mostly on embroidered domestic textiles. This was the first of four Edinburgh interiors Traquair painted between Phoebe Anna Traquair: 1852-1936 This was her first work as a professional artist. Her murals of the song school of St Mary's Cathedral —92 won Traquair national recognition. Phoebe Anna Traquair: 1852-1936 the north wall birds and choristers sing together, and the west wall shows the four beasts singing the Sanctus. A notable work by Traquair can be viewed in the Thistle Chapel of St Giles Cathedral where she designed the earliest enamel armorial panels over the knights' seats. She was invited to exhibit at the World's Fair in Chicago in and her four silk-embroidered panels The Progress of the Soul were displayed in St. Louis in That year she returned to mural painting with a work for the chancel of the St. Peter's Church at Clayworth in Nottinghamshire. Her final mural was completed for the Manners family chapel at Thorney Hill in the New Forest between and The painting is based on Botticelli's "primavera" and was completed when John Henry Lorimer occupied the Castle. However the painting was covered over in the late s but was restored in by the National Trust for Scotland. She designed the gravestone, [7] and it was carved by Pilkington Jackson. This paper drawn so this archive to present a brief history of the company, which worked for and with many of the leading architects and designers of the first half of the 20th century. The firm was established in Edinburgh at a time of renewed interest in the skills of the decorative wrought-iron worker. The revival of the wrought-metal trade, which had suffered in the 19th century from the mass introduction of cheaper cast iron, was the result of an increasing interest in the preservation and revitalization of traditional Scottish styles and skills, particularl relation yi architectureo nt .

The scaffold structure and temporary village in East Princes Street Gardens has been built without planning permission. The report states that the 2019–20 event and all previous ones have been scrupulously examined to ensure public safety. It acknowledges that mistakes were made by CEC services, but finds no evidence of systemic failure. This despite last year’s event also having no planning permission [bit.ly/2D9nRal] and no previous event having a Building Warrant. It says that extension of the contract and expansion of the Market south of the railway lines were both appropriately dealt with under the Council’s Scheme of Delegation. However, it finds the Executive Director of Place should have contacted all ward councillors once the scale of the Market became clear, but didn’t. The Policy & Sustainability Cmte considered the report and questioned officials on 26 November [bit.ly/2QSZxlb]. Members asked for more clarity on what actions could be taken over procedural faults; suggested Are you ever so slightly trauchled? Have global future politically controversial decisions be made by committee; asked melt-downs, natonal politcs, and various forms how CEC ignored its own rules, and why information was not shared of festve bliss lef you pouskered and forfauchlet? equally.

What a few months it's been! There will be a special newsletter about the Rutherglen commemoration but would just like to say a big thank you to Hugh Millar at the Church who was a pleasure to deal with since we started this about a year ago and without his help this may not have happened. About 300 people turned up for the event and it was great to Contents… see so many people taking an interest in what we do as a lot of work went into getting the plaques up and also arranging the day, and Saturday Welcome: Gary Stewart 2 especially makes it all worthwhile. Charitable Status 3 As I have explained we have had a slight problem regarding the Bell O The Brae monument and I am afraid to say we need to start from scratch as Visit: Dundee 4 the monument we had getting built was not of the standard that we were Events: looking for.
