The proposed research study received human research ethics approval from the Curtin University Human Research Ethics Committee (EC00262); Approval Number #HRE2017-0273. Signature : Date :…1/2/2021… ABSTRACT This thesis examines how a social movement uses social media in mobilising individuals to engage in the development of electoral reform and democracy in Malaysia. The way individuals engage with social media in their everyday lives and what encourages them to communicate and participate provides continual challenges for social movement activists. My study uses Foth and Hearn’s (2007) notion of ecology as a foundation to explain the interdependencies of citizens, place, and technology in the context of a social movement. A communicative ecology model sees social media as an environment and argues that communication and information should not be studied alone because there are different people, media, activities, and relationships involved (Tacchi, 2004; Foth & Hearn, 2007; Strate, 2017). -

Rodziah Stands by PKR Decision on Selangor MB Issue Malaysian Insider Aug 14, 2014
Rodziah stands by PKR decision on Selangor MB issue Malaysian Insider Aug 14, 2014 Selangor executive councillor Rodziah Ismail will stick by PKR's decision on the state menteri besar issue, saying today she wanted to fulfil the mandate given to Pakatan Rakyat (PR) to run the country's wealthiest state. The Batu Tiga assemblyman's decision meant she risks losing the welfare and women affair's portfolio in the state government led by Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, who was sacked by PKR on Saturday. "I would like to explain my stand in the context of the latest development in the state administration of Selangor. "In that context, I agree with the decision of PKR, of which I am a member. My agreement, I believe, is to fulfil the trust and take care of the mandate given by the people in GE13 to Pakatan Rakyat to run Selangor," she said in a three-paragraph statement issued early this morning. Rodziah also said in the statement that she had been away in Bangkok, Thailand, for the past three days representing PKR in a political course. Khalid had sacked five other executive councillors from PKR and DAP on Tuesday, leaving only him and four PAS excos in the state government. The five are Datuk Teng Chang Khim (DAP), V. Ganabatirau (DAP) and Ean Yong Hian Wah (DAP), Elizabeth Wong (PKR) and Dr Daroyah Alwi (PKR). The remaining Selangor exco members from PAS are Iskandar Abdul Samad, Dr Halimah Ali, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi and Sallehen Mukhyi. Yesterday, Khalid said the sacked excos must vacate their office in two weeks. -

Getting More Women into Politics under One-Party Title Dominance: Collaboration, Clientelism, and Coalition Building in the Determination of Women's Representation in Malaysia Author(s) Maznah, Mohamad Citation Southeast Asian Studies (2018), 7(3): 415-447 Issue Date 2018-12 URL http://hdl.handle.net/2433/237249 Right © Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Kyoto University Type Departmental Bulletin Paper Textversion publisher Kyoto University Southeast Asian Studies, Vol. 49, No. 2, September 2011 Getting More Women into Politics under One-Party Dominance: Collaboration, Clientelism, and Coalition Building in the Determination of Women’s Representation in Malaysia Maznah Mohamad* Malaysia’s representation of women as parliamentarians remains one of the lowest in comparison to other Southeast Asian and global parliamentary democracies. However, when contextualized against Malaysia’s politics of divides and dissent starting from 1999 onward, there are some newer characteristics of women’s involvement in formal politics. This paper explores the specificities of women’s experience in formal politics under the one-party dominant rule of the National Front before it was defeated in the May 2018 general election. The paper questions various incidents of political transitioning from an old to a newer political regime. Processes such as the collaboration between women’s civil society and formal state political actors, the cultivation of clientelist and patronage relations, and the main- tenance of a cohesive multiparty coalition as a strategy for electoral advantage have all had fruitful bearings on the way the formalization of women in politics has developed. However, given the insufficiency of these developments for increasing women’s representation, this paper proposes the more reliable gender quota or reserved seats mechanism as one of the considerations for gender electoral reform. -

HSKLU), B-G-15, Pusat Perniagaan Seksyen 8, Jalan Sungai Jernih 8/1, 46050 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
26 OKTOBER 2020 Pertahankan Hutan Simpan Kuala Langat Utara (PHSKLU), B-G-15, Pusat Perniagaan Seksyen 8, Jalan Sungai Jernih 8/1, 46050 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
