2 American Squaredanoe July 1993 e want to bring your attention to some of Wthe interesting input into "What's Going On In Square Dancing." BY- LINE The American Historic Inns, Inc. offers dis- counts on Bed & Breakfast places throughout the country. Sponsored by Nabisco products. There is an address to write to for information. It sounds like a good deal! LEGACY offers a "Promo Pak" for new classes. Now is the time to start thinking about your fall class. Don't miss this opportunity to order your pak. In Squared Circle, by Frank Lehnert, you will be moved to perhaps action by his great article about his success rate of daytime dancing. It included seniors as well as younger people. It's a "must read" article. There is also a delightful and perhaps "chilling" article talking about the "Blizzard Of '93." Don't miss reading about those dancers experiences.

I picked up a novel mixer at Callerlab last April. John Cook of Allendale, MI shared this one that he had written. e hear many people say that CW dancing is a fad that will blow over in the next few Wyears, much as the disco did. The National Teachers Association for country Western Dance is insuring that this does not happen. The organization, which has Kelly Gellette as their president, currently boasts of almost 2500 members. These members are living by the organization's motto [Teachers Helping Teachers.] Kelly Gellette, who is recognized the world over as an Expert Instructor in all kinds of dance and the Queen of CW, spends many hours each month being the editor of the organization's newsletter, as well as president. The organization publishes an outstanding monthly newsletter which lets members know of changes in the activity, gives teaching hints and has the latest line dances. All CW dancers and instructors are invited to join. There are two types of membership, General (Dues $25) and supporting (Dues $20). The supporting membership is for non-instructors who wish to keep up with the latest trends. For additional information and an application form you can contact the NTA at their new address, P.O. Box 418, Jeffersonville, IN, 47131 or call us at (812)288-6509. Some of the new products which have been developed for the CW activity include cassette tapes, which have the instructions and cues for the popular line dances, boots with dance soles (not to be worn off the dance floor), videos that show the various dances, books of line dances, books that list which songs can be done to different types of music and a set of tapes which teach you about music timing. The product lines are only surpassed by the number of CW establishment which have sprung up all over the US. In addition, CW clubs have been started in the Far East and throughout Europe. V

30 American Square:fence, July 1883 THE CALLER NOTE SERVICES

Toronto & Dist. SQ & RD Assoc, Inc. Callers Notes, (Norm Wilcox), talks about the Callerlab Mainstream & Plus Standard Applications. "What Callerlab has done is to provide us with information about the Mainstream and Plus calls." He points out that it was done to assist the callers, and in no way limits what they call or how they call it within these programs. This is an informative editorial from Norm. His Creative Choreography section covers "Overused call com- binations." Also some good examples along these lines. Norm includes lots of good material for Basic, Mainstream as well as Plus. He has a section covering the Plus quarterly, "Clover And (Anything)." And not to forget the Advanced pages where he used the last twenty movements on the Al list as well as the A2 list. Don't forget to check out "Cycle & Wheel" on the last page. LOTS OF GOOD MATERIAL THROUGHOUT.

New address for MECHANICS. Wayne Morvent, PO Box 2030, Silsbee, Texas 77656 (409)3851965222. Wayne has lots of good material in the May issue of Mechanics. Check out his Basic page using unusual Grand Square figures. In the Plus section he brings us the Experimental "Double Hinge & Flip" with lots of good figures for the callers to use. Even a singing call! Also on the Plus page he reviews Box The Top and Split The Difference. Some fun material for your use. Checkover being the Al Quarterly Selection, is given a good workout with some figures for you to examine.

The May issue of Canadian Connection, (Joe Uebelacker) is chucked full of interesting material, such as (Basic) Right & Left Grand with out Allemande Left. Read his very informative article covering why he likes to use this movement in that fashion. Included in the same section is some interesting material from Bill Davis covering Single Dixie. Joe, himself, includes one of his own creations, "GRAND CHAIN DOWN THE LINE" with some good material. Do your dancers still have trouble with Triple Trade and Triple Scoot? Joe includes some good choreographed figures for your use. For you Challenge callers there are lots of good figures for your examination, from Easy to Medium and on into Harder stuff. All good material for the callers use. V

88 Amencan Squarectance. July 1993 Saturday morning, we awoke to a BLIZZARD 1993 howling blizzard. Visibility was down to less than 200 yards and the wind was DANCING gusting to 50 miles per hour. The dance hall is in a separate building adjacent to By: George & Marie Babb the Lodge, and normally only a 2-minute walk from our rooms.
