Maine Fibres 'n Fabrics Tour An Educational Adventure in Maine November 6th to 9th, 2014 Summary Itinerary Thursday, November 6th Morning Meet your Driver and Tour Director from Target Tours and depart on your four-day Maine Fibres 'n Fabrics Tour. The bus leaves the Wal-Mart parking lot in Charlottetown at 6:00 am with pick up in Borden, Aulac, Salisbury, Lincoln, and Woodstock. Transfers are provided from Dartmouth, Truro, and Saint John. We stop for rest breaks and lunch along the way. You are encouraged to bring along a small project for sharing and assistance. There will be on-board discussion and demonstrations with local instructors on , and felting. Afternoon After crossing the border at Houlton, ME your tour director will pass out goodie bags and share some knowledge on folk lore and the and hooking in the Maritimes. Arrive at The Cotton Cupboard in Bangor, ME at approximately 2:30 pm with a visit to The Keeping Room in Hampden, ME at 3:30 pm. Evening Arrive at the Hampton Inn in Augusta, ME around 5:30 pm. Check into the hotel for a three night stay, then freshen up for the evening. Have dinner at a local restaurant tonight and relax with friends. There will be an optional get-together this evening focused on “Early Materials and Equipment.”

Friday, November 7th Morning Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. Today we travel to Kennebunkport, Maine. Our first stop, Knight's Shop, has been voted a Top 10 Shop in North America for 2009 by Quilt magazine! Check out new techniques in a demo with their experienced staff and enjoy 20% off fabrics, books, patterns, and notions! Afternoon Over lunch, explore the Kennebunkport Maine Dock Square. If you like chic boutiques and quaint café, Dock Square has just the shops for you. Book stores and antique shops are filled with rare Maine treasures you won’t find elsewhere. Have lunch at a local café. Next, visit Camp , where you have a chance to try a technique as you create a small Christmas Ornament. They carry more than 250 bolts of wool as well as patterns and supplies for rug hooking, punch needle, cross , wool appliqué, braiding and needle felting. Our last stop will be the W. Cushing & Company, who have been making and selling Cushing's "Perfection" Dyes in Maine since 1879.

Evening This evening, stop at the Maine Mall and Marden's in South Portland where quilters and other fabric fanciers will be thrilled with the great buys on quality fabrics. Have dinner at one of the area restaurants and return to the hotel in Augusta.

Saturday, November 8th Morning Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. Today we head to the Bath, Maine area. On the way, your tour director will introduce the technique of Needle Felting. Halcyon , our first stop, has arranged several demonstrations for us in rug hooking and felting. Their huge selection of yarns, fleece and supplies for all types of fibre artists will thrill everyone. Our last stop this morning is Now You're Cooking Kitchen Store which is just down the street and is a must-visit. Now You’re Cooking is putting together a fun demonstration for us on making Danish Ebelskivers, a tasty treat that is a crossover between a pancake and a popover. Afternoon Have lunch in Bath. Next, Mariner's Compass Quilt Shop has arranged some exciting demonstrations of the latest quilting techniques and newest products. After, we can explore the shops and museums of Bath including the Maine Maritime Museum. Evening Return to the Hampton Inn in Augusta, ME and freshen up. We will have a Group Dinner (included) at a local restaurant. After dinner, do some local shopping or join the group for an optional demo on “Finishing a Rug” with time afterwards to stitch or hook on your own projects.

Sunday, November 9th Morning Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. Today we load the coach and head for home. Our first stop will be at Fiddlehead Artisan Supply in Belfast, ME. A fabric and craft supply store, Fiddlehead Artisan Supply is an artistic experience for the senses. We will have a needle felting workshop during the drive today and explore some of the different techniques we've seen on our trip. Afternoon Arrive at the Bangor Mall at noon for shopping and a lunch break. This will be a two-hour stop with an optional one-hour visit to Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft. After the Bangor Mall, we depart for the Canadian border and fill out our customs forms along the way. We stop at the duty free store before crossing the Canada/US border. Evening After crossing into Canada it is onto Charlottetown with drop-off stops along the way. We have an approximate arrival time of 11:00 pm into Charlottetown. Say goodbye to your driver and tour director with many happy memories of your Maine Fibres 'n Fabrics Tour. Lori-Ann learned her quilting skills from nationally renowned Bethany Reynolds and has been sharing her knowledge ever since. Lori- Ann is a remarkably talented quilter who loves to share her knowledge and passion for quilting with others. Evelyn started sewing at the age of 12 and became interested in quilting about 9 years ago. Both ladies have participated in many workshops and retreats taught by very talented and well known quilters like Bethany Reynolds, Eleanor Burns and Carol Doak. The Cotton Cupboard is the largest quilting shop in the region.

The Keeping Room Toni has been in business for 33 years and opened her own shop just three years ago. Toni designs hooked rug and penny rug patterns and also creates custom lamp shades. The Keeping Room is a very unique shop with everything from antiques and vintage lamps to dyed wool and a rug gallery. There is a great selection of rug patterns, dyed wool, washed wool, and more.
