Billboard.com, as you may recall, has already featured an article on Bay’s first single release, “Let it Go”, which granted him both national and international visibility – at number 10 in UK charts, number 15 in US. Interestingly, the release of “Chaos and the Calm” occurs in conjunction with the internationally famous MTV European Music Awards – October 25th - where Bay will perform new songs, and for which he has received two nominations. Moreover, Bay’s will soon after kick off his first US headline tour to promote his new album, starting from November 2015. I have also enclosed the tour schedule. I am suggesting that you may want to dedicate a feature article on Bay since his new album release can appeal to your differentiated audience: both local (US tour) and international (MTV EMA). Should you need more information, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you in advance for your time and attention. Sincerely, Giulia Caparrelli PR Services - James Bay FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 10/12/15 MTV EMA Nominee, James Bay, releases his debut album, “Chaos and the Calm”, and kicks off his first US headliner tour James Bay, 25-year-old British guitarist and songwriter, will release his first studio album, “Chaos and the Calm” on October 23rd 2015, after the international success of its two singles “Let it Go” and “Hold Back the River”, which respectively peaked at number 15 and number 1 in US charts in 2014 (Billboard). Bay’s passionate, acoustic sound has been compared to music giants such as James Taylor, Carole King, and to the recent English soul phenomenon, Sam Smith (Telegraph). His perceived humble and down-to-earth personality together with his poignant lyrics and extraordinary guitar-playing skills prompted an immediate, positive public response, and ensured the progressive growing of a fan base both in the UK, in Europe, and in North America. “Chaos and the Calm” was recorded at Blackbird Studios in Nashville (TN), and benefited from the direct guidance of Jacquire King, renowned producer of best-selling music artists ranging from Norah Jones to Kings of Leon and Modest Mouse. The album will be released both in physical and digital form through the American label Republic Records. It comprises 12 tracks - all written by Bay - among which appear the top- charting singles “Let it Go” and “Hold Back the River” as well as the soon-to-be- released third single, “Scars”. The release of “Chaos and the Calm” coincides with the internationally famous MTV Europe Music Awards show, which will be held in Milan on October 25th. Bay will perform the song “Scar” to both unveil the new single and premiere the whole album. He has also received two nominations for the categories “Best Push” and “Best New”, which award new emerging talented artists. Following his UK tour, Bay will kick off his first US headline tour in November 2015 to promote the new album to an international audience. The tour will start from The Fillmore in Philadelphia (Nov. 13th), hit major venues including Boston’s House of Blues (Nov. 16th), and end at one of LA’s iconic location, the Hollywood Palladium (Dec. 1st). His warm vocals, acoustic melodies, bohemian look, and emotional folk-soul style have contributed to his recent, yet significant public acclaim. He was born in Hitchin (Hertfordshire, England) on September 4th 1990. At the age of 11, he got hold of the guitar his father had kept in their cupboard, and started playing it by ear, imitating blues rock musicians such as Van Morrison, and Derek and the Dominos: “the hobby swiftly turned into an obsession, with the neighbors constantly asking him to turn down his amp”1. When he was 18 years old, having put aside his other goal of pursuing a degree in fine arts, he moved to Brighton to attend the British and Irish Modern Music Institute and study guitar. During these years, he often performed at open mics nights in Brighton’s clubs to gain experience in performance and improve his interactions with the public. Finally, he moved to London, British nerve center of experimental music. In 2013 he played several opening sets both in the UK and in the US for artists such as The Rolling Stones, Kodaline, Tom Odell, and John Newman2. Bay’s actual climb to success began after a fan uploaded on YouTube a video of his performance at an open mic show in London, in a Kentish Town pub. Soon after, the American label Republic Records – label also promoting Florence and the Machine, Lorde, and James Blake - had him come to New York and signed him. He quickly released his first two EPs, “The Dark of the Morning” (2013), and “Let it Go” (2014), and began his first UK headline tour3. In the same years, Bay started recording his soon-to-be-released debut album, “Chaos and the Calm” (out on October 23rd), at Blackbirds Studios in Nashville, under the guidance of Jacquire King. Two singles, “Let it Go” and “Hold Back the River”, were released from it in June 2014 and November 2014 respectively, and both climbed UK and US music charts. Bay has recently announced his upcoming promotional tours in the UK, the US and Australia, which will start right after the release of the album, and last until the end of 2015. 1 "About." OTHER INFO Quotes and Reviews “I’m trying to make songs that make people feel something and, if I’m lucky, even move them,” James Bay says.4 “A true soul singer, chasing “that goose bumps moment” by channeling artists such as Miles Davis, Bruce Springsteen and James Blake, his music is intensely personal”5. “This [his latest EP “Let it Go”] is an album of genuine intent, full of poignant reflections on romance, hope, fear, the past, the present, and the future. It’s got heart. And that’s enough for starters,” Clash Magazine’s editor, Simon Harper, says6. “He [Bay] has a precocious talent as a songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist, and is just as comfortable with outgoing tracks like "Collide" as he is with intimate, personal numbers such as "Let It Go" as he winds together elements of pop, folk, rock, blues, and soul,” music journalist Mark Deeming says7 .
