Eastern Shore Sun May 2018 5 Community News Young achievers recognised for success

LAST month more than 370 guests acknowl- edged Tasmania’s young high achievers when the Tasmanian Young Achiev- er Awards recognised nine winners for their contribution to the local community. Rokeby 20-year-old Jack Dyson won the TADPAC Print Service to the Disability Sector Award for making a signifi cant contribution to Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Tas- mania raising awareness and funds. Mr Dyson said it was an amazing honour and privilege to even be nominated. “I decided to start raising awareness through the media and social media because they are the two biggest platforms to get a word out nowa- days,” he said. “Cystic fi brosis is a condition that isn’t talked about that much through mainstream media so that’s why I turned to it to change that. “You look at myself and look at the next person, you wouldn’t be able to tell if I had cystic fi brosis which is why I think the community will benefi t from knowing about this hidden disease and be able to take rec- ognition of it.” Alderman Heather Chong, Clarence winners Jack Dyson and Olivia Fleming, and Mayor Doug Chipman. 14 Eastern Shore Sun May 2018 HOME HEATING FEATURE Pellet Heating industry surges ahead

TASMANIA’S largest pellet plant is now in operation supplying local pellet fuel to the expand- ing market. Southwood Pellet Mill recently launched in Launceston and together with Oakdale in Hobart, they now supply all the heating needs for Tasma- nian customers who own pellet heaters. Pellet Fires Tasmania (PFT) is a local company which imported pellet fuel to complement the limited local supply of pure hardwood pellets until their Launceston mill commenced in Feb- ruary this year.
