Also address integrity. ) The 739 Golden Park Avenue residence is historically significant due to its association with prominent local San Diego personages. One of the earliest owners of the property was noted naturalist and writer Griffing Bancroft. Originally, however, the residence was constructed in 1929 for Harlan R. and Hortense E. Wilson. The residence's address at this tillle was 739 Arzada Terrace. Harlan Wilson was prominent in San Diego fraternal and yachting cir cles for twenty years. Wilson was a retired merchant who served as Commodore of the San Diego Yacht Club between 1931-1932, and was active in the such fraternal organizations as the San Jacinto Lodge 238 P . & A.M., the San Diego Scottish Rite Bodies, Al Bahr Temple of the Shrine, Sigma Nu Alumni Chapter, and the Maritime Society. In 1952, Dr. Wilbert and Mary E. Chapman purchased the property at 739 Golden Park Avenue. Dr. Chapman was an internationally noted ichthyologist, writer, and conservationist in both the public and private sectors. The 739 Golden Park Avenue residence, therefore, is historically significant due to its association with historically significant individuals Harlan Wilson and Dr. Wilbert Chapman. The 739 Golden Park Avenue residence is also architecturally significant as an excellent exampl e of a late 1920s Spanish Colonial La Playa design, despite the fact that the building's architect could not be determined. The composition of the residence's magnificent archit ectural plan, its tiled fountains, tile pavered walkways, carefully honed and hung doorways and windows, and outside architectural landscaping, all contribute in making the Wilson Residence a significant architectural contribution to the La Playa regional scene.
