The Mercurian A Theatrical Translation Review Volume 3, Number 4 Editor: Adam Versényi ISSN 2160-3316 The Mercurian is named for Mercury who, if he had known it, was/is the patron god of theatrical translators, those intrepid souls possessed of eloquence, feats of skill, messengers not between the gods but between cultures, traders in images, nimble and dexterous linguistic thieves. Like the metal mercury, theatrical translators are capable of absorbing other metals, forming amalgams. As in ancient chemistry, the mercurian is one of the five elementary “principles” of which all material substances are compounded, otherwise known as “spirit”. The theatrical translator is sprightly, lively, potentially volatile, sometimes inconstant, witty, an ideal guide or conductor on the road. The Mercurian publishes translations of plays and performance pieces from any language into English. The Mercurian also welcomes theoretical pieces about theatrical translation, rants, manifestos, and position papers pertaining to translation for the theatre, as well as production histories of theatrical translations. For translations of plays or performance pieces, unless the material is in the public domain, please send proof of permission to translate from the playwright or original creator of the piece. Since one of the primary objects of The Mercurian is to move translated pieces into production, no translations of plays or performance pieces will be published unless the translator can certify that he/she has had an opportunity to hear the translation performed in either a reading or another production-oriented venue. -

SYNOPSIS The film tells the story of the incredible long journey in which two fish (Marlin and his son Nemo) are forced to separate from each other in the Great Coral Reef, as Nemo is captured by a diver. The poor fish ends up in a fish tank at a dentist’s surgery from where he can see Sydney Harbour. Marlin starts a dangerous trip together with Dory, a friendly but absentminded fish, who lacks short term memory and who will help him find his son. The cautious dad finally becomes a hero of a true epic story which aims to rescue his son. On the other hand, Nemo has devised a crazy plan to go back home safe and sound. Masculinity in Children’s Film The Academy Award Winners Author: Natalie Kauklija Supervisor: Mariah Larsson Examiner: Tommy Gustafsson Spring 2018 Film Studies Bachelor Thesis Course Code 2FV30E Abstract This study analyzes the evolution of how the male gender is portrayed in five Academy Award winning animated films, starting in the year 2002 when the category was created. Because there have been seventeen award winning films in the animated film category, and there is a limitation regarding the scope for this paper, the winner from every fourth year have been analyzed; resulting in five films. These films are: Shrek (2001), Wallace and Gromit (2005), Up (2009), Frozen (2013) and Coco (2017). The films selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the Animated Feature film category tend to be both critically and financially successful, and watched by children, young adults, and adults worldwide. How male heroes are portrayed are generally believed to affect not only young boys who are forming their identities (especially ages 6-14), but also views on gender behavioral expectations in girls. Thank you so much for wanting to sing and/or play the songs on my new CD, “Joy In Our Hearts.” I am honored and blessed that you are helping me get my music out into the world! I truly believe that positive music is a healing force and that spreading positive affirmations and messages is a noble act. So whether you are singing or playing for your own enjoyment, or performing these songs to an audience, you are helping to heal the world – one song at a time. As I have said with all my other CDs and songbooks, I encourage you to make these songs or chants your own. I give you permission to change the words, alter the melody, change the key – whatever it takes for you to “own” it as your own. The chords and keys to all of this music is in the key that I sang it on the CD, but at the end of this book I have included my “Karen Drucker Handy Dandy Easy Music Method,” which will help you transpose the key to a key that works for you, help you figure out the chords, and maybe a few other tidbits you didn’t know. As you will see I have written quite a lot of these songs and chants with other New Thought artists. I would encourage you to check out their websites and find more wonderful music from each of them! CHAPTER I Introduction 1.1. Background of the Study Language is an important part in our life, by language people can communicate to understand each other. There are many languages in this world, because every county has its own language. To communicate with people from other country, we have to master particular language. But, people all over the world are still able to communicate or interact with others by using English. As we know that English has become the international language and English is the most widely- spoken language if we put together with native or non-native speakers. It means that people from non-English speaking country should learn the language and understand it to make the interaction easier. To understand other languages, people have to understand the translation itself. It is hard to imagine, when we have the opportunity to travel abroad and ask for information to the native English speaker, but if we do not understand the meaning of a word or message that is trying to be conveyed by the speaker, consequently we will miss the communication. Larson (1984) in Choliludin’s 2012 book said that translation consists of translating the meaning of the source language into the receptor language. This is done by going from the form of the first language to the form of a second language by ways of semantic structure. Its meaning which is being transferred and must be held constant, only the form changes of language. Furthermore, translation can make people get the information without confusion. Without translation, the circulation of knowledge and information from one nation to another will also cause a problems. -
