City of Highland Park 2020 Income Due Date Information

2020 Highland Park Returns are due June 1, 2021

The Treasury Department and Internal Service announced that the federal income tax filing due date for 2020 returns has been automatically extended from April 15, 2021 to May 17, 2021.

The City of Highland Park will be following the IRS based on Sec 141.664 Sec 64. The Income Tax Administrator will be extending the due date for 2020 returns from April 30 to June 1, 2021 (May 31 is the Memorial Day holiday).

Taxpayers can defer 2020 income tax payments due on April 30, 2021 to June 1, 2021 without penalties and interest, regardless of the amount owed. This means we will give all Highland Park until June 1 to file and pay 2020 tax returns. This deferment applies to all taxpayers, including individuals, trusts and estates, corporations, and other non- filers as well as those who pay self-employment tax. This deferment does not apply to any withholding or first quarter estimated tax for tax year 2021.

Taxpayers do not need to file any additional forms or call us to qualify for this automatic tax filing and payment relief. Individual taxpayers who need additional time to file beyond the June 1 deadline can request a filing extension by filing the Highland Park extension form found on our website at: www.highlandparkmi.gov

There will not be any penalty or interest on tax due unless it was for failure to make estimated payments. At this time estimated payment due dates have not been changed or moved but we will update this as we get information from the IRS. If you have questions regarding this or your returns, please call the at 313-800-5233 ext. 363 or the income tax processing center at 313-603-3118.
