June 2018 Dear network colleagues, Several years ago Eva launched the idea to organise the INSNA Sunbelt Conference for the first time in the Netherlands. As many Dutch are not always prone to “think big”, she needed all her enthusiasm to convince her co-organisers to pick up this challenge. But her enthusiasm proved infectious, and it is with great pleasure and pride we now welcome you to the Netherlands and the historic city of Utrecht. Given the central position Dutch researchers occupy in the network of network researchers, we believe it is more than appropriate that the XXXVIII Sunbelt edition takes place here in Utrecht. This printed program and the INSNA Utrecht app (https://sunbelt.sites.uu.nl/conference- app/) contain all the information you need to enjoy your conference. Full abstracts can be found in the app and at the website sunbelt.sites.uu.nl. Last minute changes will be posted in the app and on the welcome screens in the buildings. As in other years, we like to organise Sunbelt following Sunbelt traditions, albeit in an Utrecht- fashion: • Presentations are to start and stop at the stated times as persons often hop from session to session to catch papers of interest. • Please load presentations onto the available laptops before the session to prevent that your presentation time is eaten up by preparing your presentation. If you insist on using your own laptop, ensure that you have a connector to connect to our standard VGA connectors. • If in incidental cases, the chair is not available in a session, we ask the last presenter to take over the role of chair. • Lunch time is long enough to take a walk along the canals and find a nice lunch spot; although swimming and surfing is dissuaded on the canals, we can definitely advice canoeing to enjoy the many historic buildings of the city -such as Beate’s house-! • One of the old canal warehouses will function as hospitality suite and is available from 9pm to 12 am on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday night. On Thursday, we will have diner in the oldest convenience store of the city “Winkel van Sinkel”, also along the canal. If you have any questions about the conference, seek out the organisers or one of the many assistants walking around. We hope you will enjoy the conference and the city!
