Guardian Login/Password Configuration

Security Configuration

The Security Configuration allows you to determine whether guardians and/or students can change their password. You can also decide if guardians and students will be required to have a ‘strong’ password. The Security Configuration is found by navigating to Product Setup>Skyward Contact Access>Security>Setup.

You will then select Security Configuration.

• Allow Guardian users to change password – If you select this option, guardians will have the ability to change their password. Once a guardian changes their district defined password you will no longer be able to see and print it. • Allow Student users to change password – When this option is selected, students will have the ability to change their password. If a student changes their district defined password you will no longer be able to see and print it. • Display the ‘Forgot your Login/Password’ link on the login page – Select this option to include a link on your Skyward Login page to allow users to request a password reset . They will have to enter either their Login Name or their Email Address linked to their Skyward account. A will need an email address linked to their account for this to work. o Include IP Address In Email – Select this option to have the IP Address of the where the account reset request was made from in the email that is sent to the user’s email account. • Require CAPTCHA when users retrieve a forgotten login/password – This option will require users to type in the two words displayed when they retrieve their forgotten login/password. If you select this option, it will affect all users in the system and not just guardians and students.

• Require strong for Family/Student Access users – If this option is selected, it will require guardian and student passwords to meet specific requirements established in the ‘Strong Password Options.’ • Use Case-Sensitive Passwords - This option requires that passwords be typed in the case it has been entered. • Strong Password Options – The Strong Password Options area allows you to determine the specific requirements of the password. If you select any options within this area, it will affect all users in the system and not just guardians and students.

Student Login/Password Configuration

You can configure the Student Access Login/Passwords by navigating to Product Setup> Skyward Contact Access>Security>Setup>Configuration.

You will then continue navigating to Automatically Generate Login and Password>Students.

This screen has two different areas. The top of the screen allows you to see a sample Login and Email. • Define Login Format – You will use this area to determine the format of the login for Student Access. The maximum characters allowed for the login is 25. When defining the login, you can select from the following parts: o Last Name o First Name o Middle Name o Numeric Birth Year o Numeric Birth Month o Numeric Birth Day o Other ID o Text o Name Key o Graduation Year o SSN o Tiebreaker You can select multiple parts to define the login. A sample of the login will display at the top of the screen. • Define Password Format – You will use this area to determine the format of the default password for Student Access. The maximum characters allowed for the password is 25. When defining the password you can select from the following parts: o Last Name o First Name o Middle Name o Numeric Birth Year o Numeric Birth Month

o Numeric Birth Day o Other ID o Text o Name Key o Graduation Year o SSN o Random Password You can select multiple parts to define the login. A sample of the password will display at the top of the screen. • Login Options o Generate in Uppercase – By selecting this option, the student’s login will be created in uppercase. o Regenerate if Name is Changed – When selected, anytime a student’s name is updated, a process will update their login based on the corrected name and format defined on this screen. • Password Options o Generate in Uppercase – By selecting this option, the student’s password will be created in uppercase. o Generate in Lowercase – By selecting this option, the student’s password will be created in lowercase. • Automatically Allow Student Access – If you select this option, it will automatically have the ‘Allow Student Access’ checked when enrolling a new student. • Email Options o Automatically Generate Email Addresses – Select this option to have automatically generated for your students as they are added to the system. ▪ login@ – Enter the domain to be appended to the end of the emails as they are generated. o Regenerate if Name is Changed – When selected, anytime a student’s name is updated, a process will update their email based on the corrected name and format defined on this screen.

Guardian Login/Password Configuration

You can configure the Family Access login and passwords by going to Product Setup> Skyward Contact Access>Security>Setup>Configuration.

You will then continue navigating to Automatically Generate Logins and Passwords> Guardians.

A sample of the password will display at the top of the screen. • Login Options o Generate in Uppercase – By selecting this option, the guardian’s login will be created in uppercase. • Password Options o Generate in Uppercase – By selecting this option, the guardian’s password will be created in uppercase. o Generate in Lowercase – By selecting this option, the guardian’s password will be created in lowercase. • Automatically Allow Family Access – If you select this option, it will automatically have the ‘Allow Web Access’ checked when creating a new guardian.
