We have many families/parishioners in the parish struggling with serious health issues. We hope they will be able to join us at the mass. In addition, there may be some of you in the parish who have serious health issues of which we are not aware. Father Nickolai and I will both be administering the Anointing of the Sick at the 11:30 mass on September 10th for whoever would like to receive the sacrament. What is a Healing Mass? - All masses are healing masses, for God wants you to heal through the powerful sacrament of the Eucharist. It is His gift to the Church. What makes a Healing Mass unique? - The theme of the entire mass is healing, from the celebrant to the participants in the mass. Feel free to ask people to pray with you. - Examples of prayer might be a physical, spiritual or emotional healing, a relationship problem or help to forgive. God is doing the healing. The celebrant and those praying with you are the instruments that the Lord is using to provide a prayerful environment for Him to work in. How will I know that something special happened at the Healing Mass? - A majority of the people prayed for will witness that they receive a gift of peace.

Herbert H. Lehman College THE CLASS OF of The City University of New York May 28, 2020 2020 1 Dear Class of 2020: As I write this, I am reflecting on the 2018 Winter Olympics. I remember being impressed by the vignettes highlighting the personal sacrifice and commitment that led some of the most admired and talented athletes in the world to the medal stand. Those traits – sacrifice and commitment – came to mind when I thought about your graduating class of more than 3500 students. Though you did not have the privilege those Olympic athletes enjoyed to devote themselves completely to just one thing, you have shown, especially in the months leading up to this moment, that you share the same kind of commitment and sacrifices needed to help you take your place among champions. While studying, many of you have worked several part-time jobs, caring for children and relatives, commuting many hours to and from classes. Without the benefit of a financial safety net, you have also now managed to complete the disrupted term of spring term, often with inadequate internet access and with multiple challenges compounded by stay-at-home restrictions. What you have achieved would be admirable in any context but in the context of 2020, it is phenomenal. Nearly 40 percent of you have lost your jobs and critical income this spring. Some of you have battled COVID-19 yourselves, and far too many of you have friends and loved ones coping with COVID-19. It grieves me to say that at least two of your peers lost the fight with coronavirus, with the Bronx being one of the counties hardest-hit by the pandemic in the country.

Biography How can we respond when God seems to ask the impossible of us? Venerable Thecla Merlo (1894–1964) must have asked herself this question many times. Born to a simple farming family, Thecla was not highly educated, and she was plagued by poor health. In 1915, however, she embarked on an extraordinary adventure that would place her at the forefront of a new charism in the Church. This young seamstress would be among the first Daughters of St. Paul, dedicated to proclaiming the Gospel with all forms of media. Thecla’s uncommon gifts, unshakable confidence in God, and broad vision made her a prophetic voice for evangelization. One hundred years later, her legacy continues to inspire men and women around the globe. “How beautiful and holy it is to communicate Jesus to others—the Jesus whom we want to always carry in the center of our hearts.” — Venerable Mother Thecla Merlo $14.95 U.S. ISBN 0-8198-7527-9 Thecla A Prophetic Voice in Media Evangelization by Domenico Agasso BOOKS & MEDIA Boston The Scripture quotations in this publication are from the Revised Standard Version of the Bible, Catholic edition, copyright © 1965 and 1966 by the Division of Christian Education of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U.S.A., and are used by permission.
