March 2011

2010 YEAR IN REVIEW 2010 should be remembered as a year of growth and return to health. Statistically, the number of new businesses increased significantly over 2009, as did employment and construction values, while the unemployment rate dropped 2.6 percentage points. These were the unmistakable signs of an economy that has rebounded.

Overall building permit value in 2010 for the city was almost $1.5 billion. Industrial building activity was at $82 million, commercial values increased to $181 million and institutional $141 million. These numbers reflect dramatic increases from 2009, particularly in the commercial sector where there was a 181% increase in 2010. Clearly Brampton continues to be an attractive destination for investment.
