Alstonefield Gardening Group We meet for a shared lunch on Friday 21st July at 12.30pm at Brian and Lorraine’s. Anyone is welcome to come along for good food and conversation, and we invite you to bring a small amount of food or drink to share. The food seems to have become a bit more elaborate of late, and we have decided to go back to more basic items – “finger or fork food” – to make it easier to eat when we are not sitting at a table, as few people can fit us all around their table. Please ring Brian and Lorraine by 14th July to let them know what you plan to bring. The Leaden Boot Challenge 2017

FOLLOW US ON FACEBOOK FOR REGULAR UPDATES AND DETAILS OF ALL OUR EVENTS!

The Royal Oak is a CAMRA Award winning free house serving an ever changing array of real ales, many of them from local breweries. We also have a great selection of ciders, lager, wine and spirits, including several single malts and posh gins! Come and try our fizzy favourites too, including Bakewell Fizz, Red Berry Royale and Forager’s Fizz! We’ve planted up the courtyard in front of the pub as well as the beer garden, so come and sun yourself or shade yourself under our new brightly coloured parasols. Our beer garden is open until 9.30pm and we’ve gone a bit twinkly fairy light crazy!

Charity Fund Raising June's quiz was another fun night and a full house! We raised over £50 split between the local First Responders and Cancer Research. Thank you to everyone who took part in the quiz and raffle.

Drink our CAMRA award winning beer and eat our take away food at home! We now have 4 pint reusable carrier out bags so you can take any of our real ales, lager or cider home. Our premises license allows us to sell drinks for consumption off the premises too! We also have a revamped take away food menu that includes sandwiches and snacks as well as main meals, including our best seller, real ale battered cod, chips and mushy peas. So you can put your feet up, have some hand pulled real ale and eat a take out meal in the comfort of your own home! Gluten Free Menu We’ve also revamped our gluten free menu and offer a good range of gluten free starters, snacks, mains and desserts, including gluten free Sunday roast dinners. Upcycling projects We are currently saving all our glass bottles for friends who are using them for an upcycling project in their gorgeous organic garden just down the road, using glass bottles as borders with stunning results. In our ongoing attempt to reduce our waste, we can help if you are planning an upcycling project that needs cardboard, plastic bottles or any of our waste materials etc. We are working hard to move the pub in a greener direction, so if we can help with any upcycling projects we’d love to! Just give us a call. We’d rather upcycle than recycle.

CULTURE IN THE COUNTRY Monthly Pub Quiz As always the quiz is the second Thursday of the month, so our next quiz is Thursday 13 July at 9pm. It’s £1.50 per person to enter, with cash prizes to be won!!! We provide free sarnies and chips in the ‘brain teaser’ interval round! We will be running our charity raffle with all money raised going to Cancer Research and the local First Responders. Reserve a table for a pre-quiz tea. Meet the Brewer & Tap Takeover, Hartington’s Whim Ales, Friday 30 June 8pm. We are delighted that the wonderful Joe Allsop, Head Brewer from our local favourites, WHIM ALES Ltd, is coming in to talk beer and brewing. The Hartington IPA is a personal favourite beer of ours and pretty much always on tap here! Tickets £5, call 01335 310 287 to book a table in advance! Whim are a ten barrel micro brewery specialising in producing top of the range cask ale using the finest Maris Otter malt, whole cone hops, Derbyshire hill water and their own freshly cropped yeast. As well as our beer batter cod and rustic real ale casserole, we’ll have beer bbq-ed chicken on the menu too as well as beer pancakes, ice cream and berries for pudding! The kitchen is open until 8.30pm.

Toe Wrestling Charity Fundraising Event 2017 Save the date, Saturday 15 July, for this year’s toe wrestling extravaganza. The last two years events have been great fun, with Alan ‘Nasty’ Nash, the Guinness World Record holder, retaining his coveted title here at The Royal Oak, Wetton! Mr ‘Nasty’ Nash is coming back this year to battle with contenders for his title!! We’ll also be having a ladies and kids competition as part of this family fun day out, and we’re hoping the 2016 Kids Champion, Elwood Lawson, will also be coming back to defend his title. The winners get to take home and keep, for a year, the commissioned ceramic Toe Wrestling Cups, made by local artist Gerald Unwin. £5 per entry to be donated directly to Derby Kid’s Camp for adults and kids can enter for free! Derby Kids’ Camp are our chosen charity for 2017 and we will continue to support the great work they do working with disadvantaged kids and providing them with free holidays.

Sun & Snug Gallery Come and dine in our galleries and admire local artists work and look out at the flowers and birds in the beer garden. We have work on display by Hartington based artist Janet Oliver and artwork and ceramics from Wendy Bohme from Hulme End. Sheffield based Gerald Unwin’s quirky ceramics are also on display.
