AERE AT A GLANCE
The Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (AERE) is an international professional association for economists working on the environment and natural resources. Founded in 1979, AERE continues today with its mission: facilitating the exchange of ideas, stimulating research in environmental and resource economics, and promoting graduate training. AERE has over 1,000 members in more than thirty nations, at academic institutions, the public sector, and in private industry.
Over its history, AERE has sponsored several journals and now owns two: the Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (JAERE) and the Review of Environmental Economics and Policy (REEP), which are published by the University of Chicago Press and Oxford University Press, respectively. Now in its fifth year, JAERE’s success as the new flagship research journal for AERE has resulted in its expansion from four to six issues per year beginning in 2019. AERE is also proud of REEP, its policy journal, which ranks in the top 15 of all economics journals in terms of impact factor, and is also highly rated among environmental science journals.
The association offers members a wide range of opportunities to present their research and to interact with professional economists. AERE has co-hosted the World Congress since its inception and hosts an annual Summer Conference each June (except in years when there is a World Congress). In 2019, AERE will hold its summer conference on the shores of beautiful Lake Tahoe in Nevada. In addition to its own conferences, AERE sponsors over 40 sessions at the annual meetings of the American Economics Association/Allied Social Science Associations, the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association, the Eastern Economics Association, the Midwest Economic Association, the Southern Economic Association, and the Western Economic Association International.
AERE membership is based on the calendar year, with one- and three-year individual memberships available (at discounted rates to students and residents of low, lower- middle, and upper-middle income countries). AERE also invites colleges, universities, research institutions, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and corporations to become members.
