Chief duties entail working with our staff and interns and workstudy students in order to develop the long-range operational and artistic goals of both the academic Graduate Program in Playwriting at Boston University and the professional theatre producing new work; to oversee and supervise new play development, i.e., create readings, workshops, and collaborations with the various artistic teams; to supervise the hiring of all directors, designers, actors, and production personnel (which entails negotiating union contracts for the artists); to expand the educational and outreach programs of the theatre and academic programs; to work with regional and national organizations for the betterment of our alumni and current students.

GRANTS AWARDED

2005-Present (Annual) Massachusetts Young Playwrights’ Project, Center for the Humanities at Boston University (formally The Humanities Foundation at Boston University), ($3,000 (3); $6,000 (4); $8,500 (1)). Six, then 12, 16-18 and now 20 high schools are involved in a mentoring project, writing short plays that are then performed with professional actors and directors at all-day festivals at BU in April of every year.

1999-Present (Annual) Boston Theater Marathon, Center for the Humanities at Boston, 1991-Present, ($5-6,000/year). Fifty 10-minute plays in 10 hours, each supported by a different New England theatre company, with proceeds donated to charity (400 play entries received each year).
