May 2019 Round Table Session 08:00 - 09:00 Yangtze 1 Round Table Session 1: New symbols for sterile barrier systems to support aseptic presentation of sterile medical devices The packaging system for a sterile medical device is composed of one or more sterile barriers and potentially additional layer(s) of protective packaging without microbial barrier. The user needs to have an indication of which packaging layers make up the sterile barrier system to perform adequate aseptic presentation of the contents minimizing the risk to the patient. The new medical device regulation (MDR - (EU) 2017/745) in Europe has established a requirement for labelling of the sterile barrier system. This is one of many changes for sterile packaging due to the MDR that Thierry Wagner will introduce. The speaker will guide the audience through the new sterile barrier symbol concept and how the symbols can be translated into aseptic presentation steps. The goal of the new symbols is to improve the use of medical packaging for sterile devices, in particular, the differentiation between sterile and non-sterile packaging layers. The MDR will be effective as of next year for newly marketed medical devices. The Sterile Barrier Association (SBA) is the European trade association for companies who produce Sterile Barrier Systems (SBS) and associated equipment and accessories for the healthcare industry. SBS materials and equipment are sophisticated and allow single use and reusable medical devices to be sterilised after manufacture or after use. Sterilisation may take place at a medical device manufacturer or in the Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) of a hospital. In both cases the critical function of the SBS is to maintain product sterility up to the point of use. The mission of the SBA: To be the recognised expert association in the healthcare industry, promoting the use of and providing education on the most suitable single use sterile barrier systems to ensure patient safety Chairs: Thierry Wagner Introduction Thierry Wagner Live polling Discussion with panel Thierry Wagner Patrick Sparks Page 2 / 24 The 9th Conference of the European Operating Room Nurses Association, 16 - 19 May 2019, The Hague, The Netherlands Scientific Programme Round Table Session 08:00 - 09:00 Yangtze 2 Round Table Session 2: Perioperative nursing education around Europe: is it possible to organise free circulation? Chair Christine Willems will be joined by Educational committee members to debate this topic: Rocio Cabezudo, Ioannis Koutelekos, Wivine Schellekens, Simo Toivonen, Jana Wichsova, and Meryem Yavuz van Giersbergen. Free circulation of OR nurses around Europe could be possible if 1/3 of the countries come to an agreement on a Common Training Framework recognised by the regulation body of the countries, by the hospitals, by the universities... What can we do to obtain those agreements? We need your ideas and your help!! Come join us for a lively debate! Please note: Participation will be handled on a first come, first served basis.
