Saint Joseph Valley Chapter MATHCOUNTS Competition For Immediate Release Contact: David Go ([email protected]), 574-631-8394 – Chapter Coordinator Saint Joseph Valley Chapter Kicks Off Middle School Math Program (Notre Dame, IN 01/23/2013) — On February 02, 2013 nine middle schools and one homeschool in the greater Michiana area will participate in MATHCOUNTS®, a nationwide math enrichment, coaching and competition program. Hosted at the University of Notre Dame, the program is made possible through the support of the Society of Automotive Engineers, Indiana Society of Professional Engineers, and the College of Engineering and Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame. The Saint Joseph Valley Chapter competition is the first step in the national competition, as top achieving teams and individuals progress to the Indiana State Competition (March 09, 2013 at Purdue University) and ultimately to the 2013 Raytheon MATHCOUNTS National Competition in Washington, DC, where students compete for scholarships and trophies. The Saint Joseph Valley Competition consists of both teams and individuals from participating area schools including Bremen Middle School, Community Baptist Christian School, Concord Junior High School, Discovery Middle School, Henning Family Homeschool, Northridge Middle School, Schmucker Middle School, Stanley Clark School, and Trinity Lutheran School, with more than 70 students participating. About MATHCOUNTS (www.mathcounts.org): MATHCOUNTS is a national enrichment, club and competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement through grassroots involvement in every U.S. state and territory. Nationally, more than 250,000 students utilize MATHCOUNTS materials and over 5,500 schools participate in competitions annually. More than 6 million students have participated since the program began in 1983. Through coaching students and teams, coordinating and administrating competitions, and grading exams, about 17,000 volunteers will participate nationwide.
