Barthol Chapel School Bulletin 52 – 16Th August 2021 Barthol Chapel School Bulletin 52 – 16th August 2021 Welcome to Term 1 Barthol Chapel School A very warm welcome to all families to the first term of school session 2021/2022. I hope you all had a relaxing summer break. St Katherines Inverurie As you are aware, I am undertaking a dual Head Teacher role, leading and AB51 8TD managing both Barthol Chapel School and Methlick School. My working week will be split between both schools. My days at Barthol Chapel School will be a TEL: 01651 267440 Tuesday and Friday. However, these days will need to be flexible as and when the need in both schools’ dictates. [email protected] COVID-19 Mitigations www.bartholchapel.aberdeenshire.sch.uk As announced by the First Minister on Tuesday 3rd August, current mitigation measures in school will remain in place for the first 6 weeks of term. Schools should continue to avoid assemblies Head Teacher and other large group gatherings. I appreciate that this is frustrating for all, however we can remain hopeful that this will only be the position for 6 weeks. The guidance issued to schools state that face coverings should be worn by parents and other visitors to all school sites (whether entering the building or otherwise), including parents at drop-off and pick-up. Face coverings will continue to be required on school transport. One change is that children will be able to return to school with school bags, pencil cases etc. Children will be able to change in their PE Kits in school to participate in PE Lessons. Following changes to the self-isolation guidance, whole class groups will no longer be asked to self-isolate when one person tests positive. Instead, a targeted approach will be taken whereby those most at risk will be identified. Should your child be the one who tests positive, they will still be required to self- isolate for 10 days. Barthol Chapel School Bulletin 52 – 16th August 2021 School Meals A new online resource has been launched by Aberdeenshire Council’s School Meals Service, which will help with making healthy meal choices displaying allergen and nutritional content of primary school meals. The portal is linked to a nutritional analysis programme which ensures meals meet statutory nutritional standards. To use the portal please visit http://ourshiremenus.mysaffronportal.com/ Please click here to access the School Lunch Menu for this term. This menu will be in place until the October Break. A reminder that with effect from August 2021 universal free school meals will be expanded from Primary 1 to Primary 3 to include pupils in Primary 4. The cost of a meal for pupils in Primary 5-7 is Barthol Chapel School £2.50. From January 2022, Primary 5 pupils will be included in universal free school meals. Gight Castle is an interesting highlight of the route, as are the ancient broad-leafed woodlands that surround it. Be aware that you may encounter farm animals. Duration: 2 hours Route Overview Duration: 2 hours. Transport/Parking: Check Stagecoach service between Ellon and Methlick. Return walk from Methlick to walk start-point adds 6.5 km. Small fishers' car-park at start of walk. Length: 6.780 km / 4.24 mi Height Gain: 169 meter Height Loss: 169 meter Max Height: 93 meter Min Height: 28 meter Surface: Moderate. Generally good walking surfaces but some sections may be muddy after wet weather. Child Friendly: Yes, if children are used to walks of this distance and overall ascent. Difficulty: Medium to easy. Dog Friendly: Keep dogs on lead near to any cattle and sheep encountered. Pick up, bag and remove any mess! Refreshments: Can recommend the Ythanview Hotel in Methlick - good food and real ales. Description This is a very pleasant and scenic rural walk on the banks of the River Ythan, near Methlick. The main focal point on the route is the ruin of Gight Castle, ancestral home of the poet, Lord Byron, who spent some time there in his youth. The castle sits in isolation high above the river and has been abandoned for a very long time. It is unsafe to enter.

This information request stems from the Scottish Government’s Programme for Government commitment to seek to phase out the use of horticultural peat, and we wish to gain an overall picture of the scale of commercial peat extraction in Scotland at this time. Specifically, we wish to understand the current volume of peat extraction and timescales around when planning permission is due to expire. I appreciate that information pertaining to planning consent for commercial peat extraction is likely to, in certain cases, date back quite some time. Nevertheless, I would be grateful for your support in completing a short survey, as far as possible, for each site within your planning authority. Based on information from BRITPITS, produced by British Geological Survey, we have identified sites across Scotland related to peat extraction along with what we understand to be the current status of those sites.
