CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS Pistes-Solidaires will apply for the following projects on February 2nd 2016. As coordinating organisation, PISTES SOLIDAIRES is looking for volunteers for two local partner organisations in the Basque country (SW-France): 1. The Youth Information and Sports service in HENDAYE 2. The ‘Institution Louis-Edouard Cestac’ in ANGLET We are looking for 4 volunteers, for two hosting organisations (2 available placements for each) from June 1st 2016 to May 31st 2017 (12 months). You will find all the details about the placements below. After a first selection, a Skype interview will be organized. 1. EVS IN THE CITY OF HENDAYE The town of Hendaye (17,000 inhabitants) is located in the extreme south-west of France at the border to Spain, in the Aquitaine region, within the department of the Atlantic Pyrenees, 30 kilometers from the towns of Bayonne and Biarritz (airport BIQ) and 20 kilometers from the town of San Sebastian (airport EAS). The main objective of this project is to promote Europe on local level. The EVS volunteers will be involved in various community projects with different partners and age groups. Activities of the volunteers: During approximately 40% of their weekly schedule both volunteers will take actively part in animations about Europe in the town’s leisure centre (during school holidays) or within the extracurricular activities of two schools for children aged from 6 to 11. One volunteer will collaborate with the Youth Information Office and youth workers with objectives orientated to the development of international activities: - Organization of events (information days about European programs, European Day, Forum cross-border mobility, Language Cafés, workshops…) - Exchange programs related with the town’s twinning associations - Updating of youth and cultural information within the cross border network. The tasks of the other volunteer will be more orientated towards initiating international exchanges with an emphasis on sports and leisure activities with the town’s sport service. - Organization of sport events and competitions (Sports day, foot races, pelote basque,…) - Sports activities within the public schools of Hendaye - Research of European partnerships for local associations involved in sports. In each service a tutor will help them to develop the activities and guide them in their learning process. They will have the opportunity to propose their own activities and to develop new partnerships. Practical arrangements: The volunteers will share a flat with 2 bedrooms in the city centre of Hendaye. They will receive a monthly budget for food and pocket money. The city will provide them with bicycles and they can use the free city bus. French language lessons are provided twice a week by a local association. Profile of the volunteers: Both volunteers should be interested in youth animation, non-formal education and event organization. The volunteer involved in the activities of the sports service should be into sports and sporting events. French knowledge isn’t a must but would be an advantage. 2. EVS IN THE INSTITUTION LOUIS-EDOUARD CESTAC IN ANGLET The town of Anglet is in the heart of the Côte basque-Adour Agglomération, which is made up by five municipalities (Bayonne, Biarritz, Anglet, Bidart and Boucau) with a total of 140,000 inhabitants. The airport is located within the municipalities of Anglet and Biarritz (BIQ). A network of public bus transport connects the five municipalities over an area of 110km². The Louis-Edouard Cestac institution is located near the district of Cinq-Cantons, today the most lively district of Anglet. The Louis-Edouard Cestac institution consists of two services: the Children's home with Social Character - MECS and the Accompaniment Service for Families - SAF. The Children's home hosts 48 children aged 6 to 18 years entrusted by children's judges or the social welfare service for children. Its role is to protect the children by giving them a living environment in the form of an educational boarding school. The hosting of two European volunteers makes part of an educational approach since 2012 in order to introduce European diversity in its activities. Volunteers activities: Both volunteers will join the 4 educational groups of the Children's home and will assist the team of the SAF, but they will have different weekly schedules and varied activities. One volunteer will be involved in cultural activities: she/he will select interesting sites to visit or specific topics to discover, according to the age of every group, and prepare the excursions with the educators and the children. At the same time she/he can organise activities around gastronomy, dance, chorus singing, music, painting, theatre within the centre. The other volunteer will be involved into sports activities: she/he will use various sports of the region (the pelote, traditional Basque sports, rugby, surfing), organise visits to the presentations of these sports, to matches and prepare sports activities himself within the centre. Both volunteers will always be helped by the educators and realize the activities with small groups of maximum two or three children or teenagers at a time. Practical arrangements: The volunteers will share a flat with 2 bedrooms in Anglet near by the centre. They will receive a monthly budget for food and pocket money. They will have a monthly bus card for the Côte basque-Adour Agglomeration and will attend French language lessons in Bayonne. Profile of the volunteers: Both volunteers should be interested in animation and group activities with children and teenagers. The volunteers must be interested in setting up projects and in exchanging with the youngsters of the centre. They have to present a clean police record and need to have the driving licence. Basic knowledge of French would be an advantage. .
