FBR’s Hadrian X® program made great strides in FY20. Building Pilot Programs undertaken both at FRB’s facilities and externally have allowed the team to review Hadrian’s performance and apply learnings as part of the continuous improvement program. Hadrian X® has benefitted from these continued technical improvements and FBR proudly sits at the forefront of construction robotics globally.
A second Hadrian X® (H02) was commissioned in 2019, resulting in several output improvements. The top laying speed is now approximately 300% faster than H01’s was in early 2019 and laying rates demonstrated in the Building Pilot Programs represent a major milestone in the journey of commercialising Hadrian X®.
Hadrian X® constructed the program’s first non-residential structure in Byford, Western Australia in the third and final stage of the Building Pilot Program agreement with Western Australia builders, Archistruct Builders & Designers. It was the first demonstration of Wall as a Service® (‘WaaS®’) in a suburban environment. During the build Hadrian X® achieved a new top speed of 228 blocks per hour and recorded an average laying speed of 174 blocks per hour. It also proved its ability to cope with extreme weather events, continuing construction through hail, high winds and heavy rain. The build also served to demonstrate Hadrian X®’s ability to build internal and external leaf of cavity walls, which it did for the first time.
The Byford build followed Hadrian’s first display home build in Dayton, Western Australia, which was the first display home built by an end-to-end autonomous bricklaying robot anywhere in the

Dayton In July 2020, the first display home built by an end-to-end autonomous bricklaying robot anywhere in the world was completed in Dayton, a residential suburb in Western Australia.
This is one of the most significant and historic achievements in the field of construction robotics.
The Hadrian X® built a three bedroom, two bathroom home in Dayton on a site bordered by seven occupied homes.
Average lay speed (during up time) was 146 blocks per hour, or 671 standard brick equivalents (‘SBEs’) per hour.
The repeated peak lay speed during the Dayton display home build was 192 blocks per hour, or 882 SBEs per hour, achieved several times over the course of the build. If using FBR’s double width external F Blocks, the average lay rate would be equivalent to 1,620 SBEs per hour, with the peak lay speed equivalent to 2,130 SBEs per hour.
The block wastage produced on site was less than one fifth of a house built using traditional bricklaying methods.
The Hadrian X® demonstrated its ability to work in a range of environmental conditions, operating in light rain and in dark/ low light conditions.
FBR LIMITED 12 2020 ANNUAL REPORT Byford In September 2020, FBR completed the structural walls of a commercial and community centre in Byford, Western Australia.
This was the first non-residential structure the Hadrian X® had build, and the first time the Hadrian X® had built both the internal and external leaf or a double brick cavity wall with a slab step-down. The project was completed as the third and final stage of FBR’s Building Pilot Program Agreement with Archistruct Builders & Designers.
The Hadrian X® achieved an average laying speed during uptime of approximately 174 blocks per hour, or approximately 800 SBEs per hour, bettering the results achieved during the display home build in Dayton, Western Australia.
A peak laying speed of 228 blocks per hour, or 1,049 SBEs per hour was demonstrated during the build.
The Hadrian X® also worked in hail for the first time, as well as high winds and heavy rain. The completed structure is 15 courses high, including slab step-down, or approximately one and a half storeys, with brick ties manually installed.
