Cassiltoun Housing Association continue to lead a partnership of local organisations and work alongside community members to improve Castlemilk Park. We strive to continue to deliver a series of events, activities, and opportunities that highlight this amazing woodland on our doorstep. Our 2021-22 Calendar is full of free events, activities, regular groups and information on ways to get involved. As always, you’ll find your old favourites in the calendar as well as some new additions.

Please note that due to COVID-19, things are a bit different this year! A big thank you to the local community who take part, help out at our events, and give us feedback to help us constantly improve. Many of the photographs throughout this programme have been taken by community members so a thank you to you, too! Castlemilk Park Volunteers Either meet at Castlemilk Stables OR online. Castlemilk Park Volunteer Group is a great way to meet new people and take part in woodland conservation tasks such as tree cutting, path maintenance, litter picks and more! They also support the parks’ biodiversity, and help keep the park looking beautiful. Training and development opportunities available. All welcome. No experience required. Gloves and tools will be provided, please dress for the weather. We will meet at Castlemilk Stables if restrictions allow and you will need to book a slot in advance. If we are not able to meet in person because of restrictions, you can still volunteer in your own time. This could be meeting online, creating activity sheets for your community or looking after your woodland while walking through the park. Do you often go on a walk in Castlemilk Park for your daily exercise? Why not help us look after our woodland by taking photographs of specific landmarks/trees/plants, write a small paragraph about it, participate in surveys such as butterflies surveys and loads more! To be part of this project please contact us.

Community Garden Every Tuesday, either drop-in, booking a slot in the garden, or online sessions Either meet at Castlemilk Stables OR online. There’s lots to do at the Stables Community Garden - come along to grow food, cook, use the pizza oven, chat, take part in workshops, or simply enjoy the space! Creative Writing Group, Every second Wednesday Either meet at Castlemilk Stables OR online. Join us for a chat and share your stories/poems with us or simply enjoy listening to others. No previous experience is required; your interest is more than enough.

Creative Castlemilk Every Wednesday at 12pm: Online A Community Artist from Nemo Arts will lead you, step by step, in the creation of a painting using acrylic paint on canvas. No previous experience is necessary and you will receive all the materials you need to take part.

Youth Advisory Group Every Wednesday 4pm-6pm Either meet at Castlemilk Stables OR online. This group is for any young person living in Castlemilk between 14-25 years old who would like to make a difference in their community. By taking part you will get your ideas up and running, design your own projects, gain volunteer hours for any Awards you’re going for, advise us on what we should be doing Remember for young people in the area, fundraise to check if for projects and trips, and all while the event is enjoying tasty food, visiting places across in person or and further afield! online!

Food & Fun for the School Holidays Either meet at Castlemilk Stables OR online. Castlemilk Together’s Food & Fun programme is back again this year with thanks to funding from Food Programme! Pop along to the Stables for tasty food - this may be all the ingredients you name to cook up a storm, a take-away picnic, or a community lunch! As always, this will be with different arts and crafts activity packs and woodland activities for the children to help keep them occupied over the school holidays. Castlemilk Gets Digital Either meet at Castlemilk Stables OR online. We’ll be running a whole range of workshops and one-to-ones to get you saving time and money by being online as well as opening up a whole world of free workshops, games, access to loads of hobbies and interests (not to mention spaces to blether and ‘meet’!). Contact us if you want to know more about all things to do with being online - for example, how to stay safe, what makes a secure password, where is best to shop online and why people benefit from being online. You will leave this session with the tools for basic plant identification including how to recognise characteristics like size, leaf shape, colour and how to use a key to match these characteristics to the plants in your woodland. Nature themed activities for 7-12 year olds including activities such as scavenger hunts, den building, tree/ leaf ID, survival skills and creating activities to encourage wildlife in your community. We will either meet in small groups or materials for the sessions will be provided by post or collection, depending on restrictions. Overgrown areas will be opened up to let light reach the soil to allow plants to thrive and regeneration to happen. We will be using sharp tools so we will provide you with all the protective equipment that you need, or bring your own if you are a regular volunteer. Garden Harvest Festival and Food Tuesday 12th October (Time TBC - keep an eye on our Facebook pages or contact us to find out closer to the time.) Either meet at Castlemilk Stables OR online. Every year we celebrate the harvest from the community garden through inviting you to cook and share food. This year the celebrations go on! You can either pick up a pack of local produce with a recipe card to take-away or take part in cooking workshops and enjoy a feast in the garden - keep an eye on social media for what is possible!

As this calendar is written and printed in March 2021, we are unsure of what this week will entail. Join us for this flagship of nature conservation and plant your very own tree. As part of the project to turn the middle island in the pond into a wildlife haven we are replanting the island with native species that will thrive in this space. You’ll plant your own tree and along the way hear all about these specific trees and how they naturally replant themselves! Cinema Night Friday 12th November Either meet at Castlemilk Stables OR online. Join us virtually for a movie night! Our ever-popular festive event - make your own wreath with natural woodland materials, gathered by our volunteers in Castlemilk Park. This is an exciting opportunity for everyone who is interested in another way of sustainable woodland management. Learn about the old practice of coppicing from Paul Cookson from Green Aspirations and have a go at handling the specialised tools. We will be bringing our Hazel Coppice back into rotation and thus producing hazel rods which can be used for gardening work and green woodworking. Offering support for anyone working towards a John Muir Award. Would you like to be involved in achieving an award which has Castlemilk Park at its heart? From learning about its woodland and its biodiversity, as well as giving back to the park and sharing what you’ve learned with the community. This award can be done as an individual or a family and will be supported by the Community Woodland Officer.

Adopt our Woodland New in 2021! – A self-led project which invites you to adopt and care for an area of Castlemilk Park. Choose an area of the park – a tree, part of the footpath, or a landmark – and create an action plan to help look after or improve it! You will be supported by the Volunteer Development Remember Worker & Community Woodland Officer. For more to check if information or to get involved, get in touch! the event is in person or online! Art in the Park We’re inviting you to make Art in the Park! This may be making poetry, pompoms, painting your favourite tree or knitting to brighten up fences and posts.
