From the network that delivered the first-ever live televised exorcism last fall, comes the two-hour PARANORMAL LOCKDOWN: THE BLACK MONK HOUSE special, premiering Monday, October 31 at 9/8c only on Destination America. PARANORMAL LOCKDOWN: THE BLACK MONK HOUSE Epic Television Event Airs Mon, Oct 31 from 9-11pm ET Follow Nick Groff and Katrina Weidman from the hit series PARANORMAL LOCKDOWN as they conduct a special investigation of the Black Monk House in Yorkshire, England – universally feared as the home of the most violent poltergeist activity ever reported. Groff and Weidman will confine themselves to the infamous house for a record-breaking 100 hours, the longest paranormal investigation ever on television, in an attempt to capture the most convincing paranormal evidence ever to be recorded. Today, the Black Monk House sits empty as it continues to challenge paranormal investigators and enthusiasts. Over the past 50 years, visitors to the Black Monk House have reported unexplainable demonic sounds, objects levitating, and people being physically attacked. There was even an account of a little girl being dragged up a flight of stairs by an unseen assailant, forcing her family to flee the home. It’s believed that the spirits in the house can be traced to an ancient burial ground and gallows that were once located near the land where the house currently sits. THE EXORCIST FILE – HAUNTED BOY World TV Premiere Airs Wednesday, October 12 at 10/9c While filming in a haunted asylum in St. Louis, documentary filmmakers uncover a secret diary of the infamous 1949 exorcism involving a 13-year-old boy possessed by the devil that later inspired the book and movie “The Exorcist.” Using high-tech paranormal investigation tools along with a legion of supernatural experts, they seek to capture evidence of the scariest entity known to man, the Unholy Ghost. This is the untold real story of "The Exorcist,” a chronicle of true events based on the actual priest's secret diary the world was not to see… until now. WORLD’S SCARIEST GHOSTS CAUGHT ON TAPE One-Hour Special Airs Friday, October 7 at 10/9c What if ghost stories were true? WORLD’S SCARIEST GHOSTS CAUGHT ON TAPE investigates some of the most terrifying modern examples of possible evidence of the supernatural in photographs, audio recordings and video. • Minding Our Minds During the COVID-19 These Can Be Difficult
Minding our minds during the COVID-19 These can be difficult times for all of us as we hear about spread of COVID-19 from all over the world, through television, social media, newspapers, family and friends and other sources. The most common emotion faced by all is Fear. It makes us anxious, panicky and can even possibly make us think, say or do things that we might not consider appropriate under normal circumstances. Understanding the importance of Lockdown Lockdown is meant to prevent the spread of infection from one person to another, to protect ourselves and others. This means, not stepping out of the house except for buying necessities, reducing the number of trips outside, and ideally only a single, healthy family member making the trips when absolutely necessary. If there is anyone in the house who is very sick and may need to get medical help, you must be aware of the health facility nearest to you. Handling Social isolation Staying at home can be quite nice for some time, but can also be boring and restricting. Here are some ways to keep positive and cheerful. 1. Be busy. Have a regular schedule. Help in doing some of the work at home. 2. Distract yourself from negative emotions by listening to music, reading, watching an entertaining programme on television. If you had old hobbies like painting, gardening or stitching, go back to them. Rediscover your hobbies. 3. Eat well and drink plenty of fluids. 4. Be physically active. Do simple indoor exercises that will keep you fit and feeling fit.

  • Police Powers in the COVID-19 Context
Police powers in the COVID-19 context This guidance note has been written by Ashley Chrystall, Wellington Community Justice Project, and covers information relating to making reports during the COVID-19 lockdown, police powers to enter your home and to stop you while you are outside or on the road, as well as powers of arrest. Making reports How do I report lockdown breaches? To report an individual or business breaching any of the current alert level restrictions, you can fill out the form on the Police website. If you have concerns regarding people who are not self-isolating when they should be, you can email the dedicated Ministry of Health email address. What can the police do if I report breaches during the COVID-19 lockdown? The police will educate anyone breaking lockdown rules and can enforce these rules if necessary (discussed below). Police will be patrolling streets with a focus on maintaining law and order and preventing harm. They will deal appropriately with anyone attempting to exploit the restrictions in place. During the lockdown, police have special powers available under various pieces of legislation, including the Health Act 1956, the Summary Offences Act 1981, and the Civil Defence Emergency Act 2002. Breach consequences include warnings through to prosecutions if necessary. If I see someone breaking the COVID-19 lockdown rules, should I handle it myself? If it is safe to do so, police advise having a polite conversation with the individual/s breaching lockdown restrictions, at a two metre distance, in the first instance. The best way to handle a breach of the COVID-19 lockdown is to contact the authorities and inform them of any breaches.

  • Cinematic Ghosts: Haunting and Spectrality from Silent Cinema to the Digital Era
Cinematic Ghosts: Haunting and Spectrality from Silent Cinema to the Digital Era. Edited by Murray Leeder. Bloomsbury Academic, 2015 (307 pages). Anton Karl Kozlovic Murray Leeder’s exciting new book sits comfortably alongside The Haunted Screen: Ghosts in Literature & Film (Kovacs), Ghost Images: Cinema of the Afterlife (Ruffles), Dark Places: The Haunted House in Film (Curtis), Popular Ghosts: The Haunted Spaces of Everyday Culture (Blanco and Peeren), The Spectralities Reader: Ghost and Haunting in Contemporary Cultural Theory (Blanco and Peeren), The Ghostly and the Ghosted in Literature and Film: Spectral Identities (Kröger and Anderson), and The Spectral Metaphor: Living Ghosts and the Agency of Invisibility (Peeren) amongst others. Within his Introduction Leeder claims that “[g]hosts have been with cinema since its first days” (4), that “cinematic double exposures, [were] the first conventional strategy for displaying ghosts on screen” (5), and that “[c]inema does not need to depict ghosts to be ghostly and haunted” (3). However, despite the above-listed texts and his own reference list (9–10), Leeder somewhat surprisingly goes on to claim that “this volume marks the first collection of essays specifically about cinematic ghosts” (9), and that the “principal focus here is on films featuring ‘non-figurative ghosts’—that is, ghosts supposed, at least diegetically, to be ‘real’— in contrast to ‘figurative ghosts’” (10). In what follows, his collection of fifteen essays is divided across three main parts chronologically examining the phenomenon. Part One of the book is devoted to the ghosts of precinema and silent cinema. In Chapter One, “Phantom Images and Modern Manifestations: Spirit Photography, Magic Theater, Trick Films, and Photography’s Uncanny”, Tom Gunning links “Freud’s uncanny, the hope to use modern technology to overcoming [sic] death or contact the afterlife, and the technologies and practices that led to cinema” (10).

  • The Supernatural World of the Kawaiisu by Maurice Zigmond1
The Supernatural World of the Kawaiisu by Maurice Zigmond1 The most obvious characteristic at the supernatural world of the Kawaiisu is its complexity, which stands in striking contrast to the “simplicity” of the mundane world. Situated on and around the southern end of the Sierra Nevada mountains in south - - central California, the tribe is marginal to both the Great Basin and California culture areas and would probably have been susceptible to the opprobrious nineteenth century term, ‘Diggers’ Yet, if its material culture could be described as “primitive,” ideas about the realm of the unseen were intricate and, in a sense, sophisticated. For the Kawaiisu the invisible domain is tilled with identifiable beings and anonymous non-beings, with people who are half spirits, with mythical giant creatures and great sky images, with “men” and “animals” who are localized in association with natural formations, with dreams, visions, omens, and signs. There is a land of the dead known to have been visited by a few living individuals, and a netherworld which is apparently the abode of the spirits of animals - - at least of some animals animals - - and visited by a man seeking a cure. Depending upon one’s definition, there are apparently four types of shamanism - - and a questionable fifth. In recording this maze of supernatural phenomena over a period of years, one ought not be surprised to find the data both inconsistent and contradictory. By their very nature happenings governed by extraterrestrial fortes cannot be portrayed in clear and precise terms. To those involved, however, the situation presents no problem. Since anything may occur in the unseen world which surrounds us, an attempt at logical explanation is irrelevant.
