ABSTRACT This study examined the natural environment, crude oil exploration and rural livelihood in Ogba clan of Rivers State, particularly the effect of environmental degradation as occasioned by crude oil exploration on the clan‟s existence. The tribe has a population of two hundred and eighty-four thousand and ten (284,010) persons as at 2006 census, however was projected to be 398,000 persons by March 2016 according to NPC and NBS web, census data 2019. Nevertheless, a sample size of 300 respondents was adopted for the study based on the application of quota sampling scientific principle. This study adopted the Political Economy as the theoretical frame work, whereas it methodologically engaged the cross- sectional study design and analytical techniques in addition to the Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The study findings divulged strapping link between crude oil exploration, environmental degradation and rural livelihood loss in Ogba communities, therefore, there exist strong tie between the natural environment and rural livelihood in Ogba, also, oil exploration does impact negatively on the composition of its environment, and environmental degradation does have negative effect on sustainable rural livelihood particularly in the study clan, in addition to rural livelihood not being sustainable due to environmental degradation, lastly, oil exploration and declining rural livelihood does have negative effect on Ogba culture.

Information was received through direct and indirect interviews. The study revealed that the practice of welcoming guests has been part of the cultural life of the natives prior to the advent of Christianity. Again, the act of Abraham had significant relationship with the stories of many Nigerian communities.

With diverse leadership management agenda that are not always known to any but the leadership managers themselves (Ponder, 2005) are executed on Obagi and Ogba people in Niger Delta, Nigeria. In this paper, Laish or the impoverished (Ahiamadu, 2016) is used to represent Obagi, Ogba or the suffering and unsuspecting people. Thus, this paper goes several steps further to examine how leadership managers and followership attitude, behavior and cultural mind-set have contributed to present day sufferings of the “peaceful and unsuspecting”. Applying several perspectives from diverse scholars and other sources, this paper therefore, used methodological theory of frustration-aggression, motivational and Ohio State theories to investigate a complex and multi-dimensional cultural attitude and behavior analysis contexts. Also, dissatisfaction, oppression, human rights deprivation and sufferings are tied to the leadership-followership attitude, behavior, cultural mind-set and incompetence themes. Serious human rights breaches have stripped these peaceful and unsuspecting people their God-given rights and almost decimated them through subtle execution of gradual genocidal series.

This paper discusses the concept of religious peace and security apparatus in Ogba, Ikwerre and Yoruba traditions. The study identifies certain institutions like the deities, secret societies, the age grade among others; as responsible for the maintenance of law and order whether in social or religious spheres. It identifies the various instrument of peace and security in these traditions and how these apparatuses are deployed to ensure social and religious security in the societies. The research recognises the policing role of the ancestors in a bid to maintain society in equilibrium. The paper highlights the role religion has played in peace and security in the Ogba, Ikwerre and Yoruba land. The purpose of this research is to identify, highlight and explain how religious peace served as prelude to social peace and security in Ogba, Ikwerre and Yoruba traditions. The paper employs the historical and comparative analytical model in the discussion.

This civilization owes its existence to fast means of communication systems. Thus the global world is knighted into one political economy. Distances are reached under seconds. Notwithstanding the fast means of communication gadgets in our time, African traditional means of communication has survived the test of time. What then has been the connection of Africa traditional means of communication and politics? The answer to this question, spe- cifically as operative in Ogba land is the main thrust of this paper. The issues in discourse include com- munication and the socio-political sphere, the town crier and Ogba socio-political culture using the litera- ture approach. The tragedy of such economy includes inconsistent political system, weak economic and developmental policies, incorporation of the economy into the vagaries western capitalist practices through IMF and World Bank, inflation and absence of economic stabilization of economy, neglecting agriculture among others. This research critiques petrodollar crisis and the challenges of development of host communities of the Niger Delta Region, with a study of Ogba and Ogoni Communities put in the eyes of the storm. Focusing on oil exploration and exploitation and the development sluggishness experienced in the aforementioned communities, the study adopts triangulation method as its methodology in data gathering and Marxism and the resource curse theory as the theoretical framework. Like rating scale was used to test the three hypotheses formulated. The research observed absence of best practice by the multinational oil and gas companies which incarnates environmental degradation and neglect of these communities as the causes of crisis in host communities and the crisis to a large extent leads to development challenges. The study recommends amongst others that oil and gas companies must adopt global best practice in their operations as practiced in other climes.

Covertly or overtly, humans have the tendency for vested interest. Therefore, at any point one individual or group crosses the prescribed boundaries of accepted cordial relationship, dispute ensues. Without over stating the obvious, the concept of dispute resolution is predicated on the assumption that an equitable society can only be brought about by an equitable decision. According to (Otto 2015) dispute is one of the inevitable phenomena of every human society. However, what exemplifies the greatness or quality of life in any society is how such society is able to administer their affairs. Merely looking at the face of the lion, a fickle mind will not be able to draw it. However, with courage, a great mind can tame the lion. To adjudicate on disputes, requires courage, forthrightness and selflessness, since an unbiased mind will not border whose odds in gods. Perhaps, this is why it is often said that “to be firm, is to be prudent”. In the administration of justice, there is no doubt that parties may like to tempt adjudicators so as to win their sympathy, however, a good knowledge of the rules and traditional mechanism of dispute resolution, will make for efficient performance.

It looked at how communication and human resource development are related to lecturers’ job performance in the Universities. The descriptive survey design was used for this study. The population of this study consisted of 154 Deans, 849 Heads of Department and 11,828 academic staff in Southwest Nigeria Universities. The sample was one thousand eight hundred (1,800) respondents, comprising 20 Deans, 70 Heads of Department and 1,710 academic staff. Multistage sampling procedure which involves simple random sampling, stratified random sampling and proportional stratified random sampling techniques were used to select them. Two self-designed instruments were used, Questionnaire on Human Resource Management (QHRM) for academic staff and Productivity of Academic Staff Questionnaire (PASQ) for Deans and Heads of Departments. To establish the reliability of the instruments, the test-retest method was used. They were found to be 0.74 and 0.71 for QHRM and PASQ respectively. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics such as percentage; mean and standard deviation and Pearson’s product moment correlation. The hypothesis were tested at 0. 05 level of significance. The study revealed that communication and human resource development were significantly related to lecturers’ job performance.
