WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS

Welcome to Six Crows Bed & Breakfast & Retreat House.

Six Crows is a rural haven overlooking a small sportsman’s lake. The main facilities are in a handsome, 2-level, 9-year-old, custom-built home overlooking the lake. B & B facilities face the lakeside from the lower level of the house. Host and B & B accommodations are distinct and separate.

Our Suite of offerings includes four bedrooms with shared breakfast nook, lounge, and restroom facilities in the main house, and a small cabin with electricity, compost toilet, water fountain (no running water), and coffee pot, located at the edge of the lake. There is also an outdoor shower. The five spaces plus common areas may be rented as a Suite or individually. Pricing, pictures, and detailed descriptions of each space begin on Page 12.

Your hosts, Dave and Linda, welcome and celebrate all diversity in our world, and in our guests. Dave is retired, but very involved in community service. Linda is the director of 3R Education, a local nonprofit environmental education company.

One or both of us are frequently away during the day and/or at evening activities. We are quiet but friendly and available for questions. If we are not home, we're a cell phone call or text away. Otherwise we will not intrude on your privacy.

A printed copy of this guide, including contact information, Wi-Fi password, instructions for the Smart TV, VCR, and other available equipment. is available in the lounge.

Six Crows Bed & Breakfast & Retreat House Guest Guide – Page 1 of 34 CHECK-IN

Check-in is anytime after 3 pm. Checkout is 12 pm. There are 2 parking areas, in front of the detached garage on the east side (to your right as you drive in), or on the house’s west (left) side near the tree fort.

From either side of the house, follow a gentle grassy slope or the adjacent steps down and around to the B & B. The slope is short and fairly gentle, and with help a wheel chair could navigate it down and back up, but we don’t have a ramp and thus would not call the property handicap accessible.

Walking around the east side, you will pass by the hot tub deck at the end of the patio. From the west side, you will pass by the fire pit on the other end of the patio.

The double doors off the patio will lead you into the B & B common area, which includes the lounge, breakfast nook, and washroom. The four bedrooms are left, right, and center. Look for the room name on each door.

East Side West Side

Look for small labels to show you where, in your bedroom, your bath linens are stored. The mechanical room, work- shop, and a couple storage cupboards have been labelled private. Thank you kindly for respecting these areas.

There are a countertop convection oven (not shown in picture), microwave, hot plate, pots and pans, a coffee pot, a kettle, a toaster, and a crock pot. On the covered patio, there are a gas grill and a full-sized refrigerator with freezer for your cold storage needs.

Six Crows Bed & Breakfast & Retreat House Guest Guide – Page 3 of 34 Please be aware that there is no running water in the breakfast nook. The up side is that we wash your dirty dishes! Just clear them into the large gray tub provided. We will collect and wash and return them.

Our well water is safe to drink, but is treated for high mineral content. A drinking water dispenser is therefore provided.

We recycle and compost. The trash, and compost bins are in the cupboard on the right. All food waste can be disposed of in the compost bucket. Items that can be recycled are listed on the blue recycle bin next to the water dispenser.

* Due to the discounted price, daily breakfast is not included in Suite rental, however you will find the breakfast nook stocked up when you arrive to get you started.

LOUNGE

Six Crows Bed & Breakfast & Retreat House Guest Guide – Page 4 of 34 The lounge overlooks the lake through near wall to wall 7-foot high windows and glass doors in this 9-foot high room.

The lounge and the breakfast areas are open and merge together. 13 people can sit and comfortably interact in this open space.

Lounge seating includes a sofa and 3 comfortable arm chairs. The furniture is older, but solid and clean. The lounge is carpeted, as are all the bedrooms. Kind removal of shoes at the door is appreciated.

A 50" state of the art Smart TV in the Lounge broadcasts major networks, CBS (3), NBC (8), ABC (13), Fox (17), and PBS (35), and a dozen plus additional channels, via antenna.

The Smart TV also allows guests to tap directly into dozens of personal subscription services such as Netflix, HBO, Amazon, and Hulu. Be sure to delete your passwords when you exit the app.

There is also a DVD player, and we provide myriad DVD movies for your viewing pleasure.

Wi-Fi Internet service is provided. We have high throughput, however, it will lag the more people there are on online devices (incl. on Smart TV) at the same time.

We also provide a stereo system. Feel free to enjoy our large CD collection as well as the radio. You will find quite a variety of artists and musical styles. The vinyl records are for private use. Thank you for this respect.

The coffee table is functional, opening up to reveal table top games in the upper section, and and note paper and writing utensils in the right hand drawer. The left drawer is filled with pamphlets, booklets, guides, brochures, and coupons for local attractions and eateries.

As pictured, we provide myriad board games and childrens’ toys for rainy day entertainment. There are also many books for leisure and bedtime.

Six Crows Bed & Breakfast & Retreat House Guest Guide – Page 5 of 34 We can provide a baby stroller, a playpen, toddler seat, and child’s booster seat for families with wee ones. Please return all items neatly where you found them. Thank you for this courtesy.

WASHROOM FACILITIES

The main entrance to the common washroom is from the central hallway. It features a shower, an oversized tub (pack in a few little ones for bath time fun, or enjoy a romantic couple’s bubble bath!), sink, and privacy toilet. Please turn the sign (Vacant/Occupied) on the door when inside. Leaving the main door to the bathroom open helps signal to other guests that it is unoccupied.

This is a shared washroom. For many, Six Crows is a destination, and guests' time is more leisurely, so sharing is not a problem. Some guests are en route somewhere or have business locally, so please be respectful of their needs during peak times.

The house features “on demand” hot water, so it never runs out. It does take a few minutes for the water to heat up. Soap, shampoo, conditioner, and other toiletries are provided. Our outdoor shower is an option for our more adventurous guests.

Six Crows Bed & Breakfast & Retreat House Guest Guide – Page 6 of 34 HOT TUB

Our 8-person hot tub is on its own private deck a half dozen steps up from the east side of the patio. Fold over the cover in half, and then flip the whole thing up against the railing adjacent the house.

The controls that operate the jets and light colors are on the tub's southwest corner. Please turn these off and secure the cover when done.

Please DO NOT use any products in the water.

The hot tub deck also features a table and chairs (not shown in picture) so you can enjoy at your leisure.

LITTLE SILVER LAKE

Six Crows' Turtle Cove

Six Crows Bed & Breakfast & Retreat House Guest Guide – Page 7 of 34 Six Crows overlooks a small inland sportsman's lake. We are on “Turtle Cove”, and have in our opinion the best view and most private property on the lake.

The fishing, summer or winter, is superb. Last year one grampa and his two grandsons took home 22 fish (among them fresh water perch). If there is any doubt, the wildlife floating, flying, and casting around the cove is a big clue! We even have hawks and eagles dropping in for lunch!

We leave our lakefront as natural as possible while accommodating boat access. You will enjoy a caboodle of wildlife including loons, herons, osprey, migrating geese, young and aged turtles, an endless supply of frogs, and our resident swan couple, ELLIE and PHINEAS.

There is a grassy lakefront for sunbathing, but no sandy beach or shoreline swimming area. Many people boat or tube out into the middle of the lake to swim. All children going out onto the lake MUST BE accompanied by adults.

We have three watercraft: two 2-person kayaks, a canoe, and a pedal boat. Life vests—please use them—are in the nearby labeled bin. The oars are behind the bin. You will find several tubes in the storage building on the east side. We also have two fishing poles for guests' use. Please make special arrangements in advance for these. Please return boats to their racks and equipment to their storage location after use. Thank you.

OUTDOORS AND GROUNDS

In addition to the watercraft and lakeside lounge area, Six Crows grounds feature assorted gardens, children’s play area, and two fire pits. Use of all outdoor areas and amenities is available to all guests. Please DO NOT leave an active campfire unattended, and NEVER leave children unattended by a fire.

Six Crows Bed & Breakfast & Retreat House Guest Guide – Page 8 of 34

All outdoor amenities are available to all, and included in the rental fee.

For the youngsters, we have a large sandbox with toys, swing set, tree fort, and kiddies' splashing pool. We also provide a 10-foot long by 3' deep lounging pool for all ages.

All children under 12 years MUST BE SUPERVIZED BY AN ADULT when playing in the tree fort, and no roughhousing is permitted while up there.

ABSOLUTELY NO TODDLERS may climb up into the treehouse, unless accompanied by adults. Parents and caretakers, please use common sense and stress the rules to your children.

Six Crows Bed & Breakfast & Retreat House Guest Guide – Page 9 of 34 THE MEDICINE WHEEL

Our most unique garden is the Six Crows Native American Medicine Wheel. If you look closely at the picture above, you will see that the Wheel contains four quarters within which are a small pond, a sacred fire pit, an herb garden, and a “mountain”. These represent the life-giving elements of water, fire, earth, and air, as well as the wisdoms represented in the four directions. Each of the 36 rocks that make up the Wheel, the spokes, and the hub remind us of all the wonderful ways we can show up in the world. Native American spirituality is not considered a religion, but a philosophy — which by the way is the Greek word for “a love of wisdom”.

The log benches encircling the Wheel form some of the seating used by participants at occasional Six Crows sacred gatherings and ceremonies, designed as a way of honoring life and reawakening and affirming our innate wisdom.

We will let you know and welcome you if you are interested, should a ceremony happen to fall on a date you are visiting.

For those who would like to know more about the Sacred Medicine Wheel, we have left a copy of Sun Bear’s Dancing with the Wheel on the coffee table in the Lounge.

Six Crows Bed & Breakfast & Retreat House Guest Guide – Page 10 of 34 PETS

We have a cat, Sunni, and a dog, Pepper. They are very friendly, nevertheless we do keep Pepper inside when we have guests visiting with dogs to avoid any chance of scuffles.

You are welcome to bring your well-behaved family pet, however there are some rules we insist on.

You MUST let us know upon booking if you are bringing a pet, and provide a description. Please do not bring any pet that is not friendly to people AND other pets that may be visiting. We will let you know in advance if there will be other pets visiting.

If there are other dogs visiting, all dogs MUST be kept on a leash until all visiting dogs have been introduced and all owners are satisfied their dogs are getting along. If your dog shows any signs of aggression, it will have to be constrained to your bedroom.

We require that your visiting pets be up to date with shots and flea/worm preventatives..

We are in the country. Please clean off Fido before bringing him/her inside, especially if your canine companion decided to take a dip in the lake. There is a hose on the patio. Please rinse Fido off on the grassy area.

ABSOLUTELY NO DOGS ON FURNITURE. Let us know, and we can supply a dog bed.

The Six Crows Medicine Wheel has on many occasions served as a venue for weddings and other events. Guests renting our Suite may use the grounds for such a purpose at no additional charge. Non-guests pay $300 for a 24- hour grounds rental. Please discuss details with Linda.

We have available for event use several canopies, a rack of about 100 chairs, and a dance floor which can be put down on the deck behind the detached garage. You would have to bring in tables and all your other needs, and rent porta-johns for your party. All setup, teardown, and cleanup is your responsibility. We expect all items borrowed from Six Crows to be returned neatly where they were found, and for you to haul away your trash. Thank you for this respect.

If you need a wedding or handfasting officiant, Linda is an ordained minister of The Universal Life Church, and would be happy to discuss conducting your ceremony. Her fee for a generic ceremony is modest at $50. If you desire a custom ceremony, she can write and design it for you at an additional charge based on the time and complexity involved.

Linda can also conduct a sweat lodge ceremony for the couple and attendants if desired, the day before the wedding. There is a sweat lodge on the property. Please ask Linda if you would like to know more.

We welcome and celebrate all diversity in our world, and in our guests. We consider everyone one human family, and each of our spiritual and life paths the right one for us.
