JOB DESCRIPTION – POU WHAKAHAERE

Primary Purpose

The overarching goal of the Pou Whakahaere is to increase production and capacity within the Māori film sector through the implementation of our strategy, Te Rautaki Māori. The Pou Whakahaere will influence and shape the development of a culture which responds to the needs of the Te Tumu Whakaata and our key stakeholders. Calling upon their extensive /Māori and Maori film sector networks, the Pou Whakahaere will help establish and nurture mutually beneficial partnerships between the Māori film sector and Te Tumu Whakaata Taonga.

Key Accountabilities/Tasks

• Provide support towards increasing production and capacity within the Māori film sector; • Manager implementation of Te Rautaki Māori action plan • Work with management team to agree a project plan which identifies tasks, deliverables, resources and time frames for the implementation of Te Rautaki Māori; • Demonstrate cultural leadership that inspires confidence and builds knowledge across the organisation in te reo Māori and tikanga Māori to achieve Te Rautaki Māori goals; • Contribute to establishing an environment which recognises and acknowledges Māori cultural capability as an important and shared responsibility. • Ensure with colleagues that Te Rautaki Māori is embedded in Te Tumu Whakaata Taonga systems and processes, normalising its use and value by the board, management and staff; • Facilitate the management team to build strong relationships with the Māori film sector which lead to partnerships between Te Tumu Whakaata Taonga and the Māori film sector • Connect and align work across the organisation to create a deeper understanding of how our work impacts Māori, and ensuring we work more productively as an organisation; • Lead engagement forums with iwi/Māori stakeholders; • Assist the Chief Executive with annual review of Te Rautaki Māori; • Facilitate annual review and updating of Te Rautaki Māori with senior management; • Develop relevant measures for Te Tumu Whakaata Taonga statutory reporting requirements in relation to Te Rautaki Māori, e.g. the Statement of Performance Expectations.

Selection Criteria

1. Knowledge and experience working in the NZ screen industry (Māori film, TV, online) and/or arts sector; 2. Executive or senior management and leadership skills in various setting which are results oriented; 3. Coaching and influencing skills to drive change through others; 4. Extensive networks with decision makers in the Māori film sector or film industry; 5. Highly proficient in te reo Māori, both written and spoken; 6. A relevant tertiary and/or post graduate qualification.
