MSG Network Scores Highest West Coast Knicks Game Rating in Over a Decade MSG Network Scores Highest West Coast Knicks Game Rating in Over a Decade First Regular Season Knicks Game on MSG Network Garners a 3.15 Nielsen Household Rating NEW YORK, Dec. 29, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Last night's New York Knicks-Golden State Warriors game on MSG Network — the first regular season game of the 2011-12 season for MSG — scored a 3.15 Nielsen household rating, the highest household rating for a regular season game started at 10:00 p.m. or later since March 31, 2000 when the team played in Vancouver (3.16 HH). MSG Network is part of The Madison Square Garden Company (Nasdaq:MSG), a fully-integrated sports, media and entertainment business. Last season, the first Knicks regular season west coast game (November 17, 2010 at Sacramento) scored a 0.86 HH rating and for the entire 2010-11 Knicks season, regular season west coast games averaged a 1.00 HH rating. The game also outperformed last season's first regular season Knicks game on MSG Network when the team played at Toronto (October 27, 2010) and garnered a 1.65 HH rating. In April 2004, Nielsen switched to the Local People Meter (LPM) methodology in New York. As the exclusive local television home of the New York Knicks, New York Rangers, Buffalo Sabres, New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils, New York Liberty and New York Red Bulls, MSG Networks telecasts nearly 400 live professional games per year. MSG Networks also telecasts 150 live college basketball games and 50 live college football games from top national conferences (SEC, Pac 12, Big 12), as well as other award-winning original programming. MSG Networks has won 63 New York Emmy Awards over the last four years, more than any New York station or network. • Modifying Factors for Concussion Incidence and Severity in the 2013-2017 National Hockey League Seasons

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Concussion Management of New York, New York, USA Corresponding author: Ryan Adams, [email protected] Abstract Introduction In the past few years, there has been a rising interest in both the prevalence and the short- and long-term consequences of concussions. While the main focus of concussion-based research revolves around the National Football League (NFL), attention is now shifting to other high contact leagues like the National Hockey League (NHL), where there is constant player-to-player contact as well as collisions with the perimeter boards. While the body of evidence surrounding injury and concussion rates in the NHL has substantially grown in size over the previous few years, there is still a void pertaining to the in-game effects that could modulate concussion incidence. Our study takes a novel approach to evaluate several “style of play” factors such as home/away perspective, win/loss outcome, points scored, real time length of game, time of season, and player position in modulating concussion rates. Methods Data on concussion incidence for the 2013-2017 National Hockey League seasons was collected utilizing FOX Sports injury tracker.

  • Corporate Social Responsibility in Professional Sports: an Analysis of the NBA, NFL, and MLB
Corporate Social Responsibility in Professional Sports: An Analysis of the NBA, NFL, and MLB Richard A. McGowan, S.J. John F. Mahon Boston College University of Maine Chestnut Hill, MA, USA Orono, Maine, USA [email protected] [email protected] Abstract Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an area of organizational study with the potential to dramatically change lives and improve communities across the globe. CSR is a topic with extensive research in regards to traditional corporations; yet, little has been conducted in relation to the professional sports industry. Although most researchers and professionals have accepted CSR has a necessary component in evaluating a firm‟s performance, there is a great deal of variation in how it should be applied and by whom. Professional sports franchises are particularly interesting, because unlike most corporations, their financial success depends almost entirely on community support for the team. This paper employs a mixed-methods approach for examining CSR through the lens of the professional sports industry. The study explores how three professional sports leagues, the National Basketball Association (NBA), the National Football Association (NFL), and Major League Baseball (MLB), engage in CSR activities and evaluates the factors that influence their involvement. Quantitative statistical analysis will include and qualitative interviews, polls, and surveys are the basis for the conclusions drawn. Some of the hypotheses that will be tested include: Main Research Question/Focus: How do sports franchises
