While some groups have experienced an increase in new residents enquiring about becoming volunteers, numbers of experienced and DBS checked volunteers able to be out and about will be depleted. Groups will be focusing on maintaining support to existing clients and where they have capacity they will help as many other local people as they can. Each group is set up and run by residents and the support that they can offer will vary depending on the range of skills and time available within their pool of their volunteers. They are working closely with other local groups including new covid-19 groups so if they are unable to help someone they will use their local knowledge to try to find suitable alternatives. Volunteers don’t take on tasks best suited to trained professionals or the emergency services but help out with occasional things that can make all the difference, such as delivering shopping; walking the dog; or ringing up for a chat with someone who is self-isolating. They are insured and DBS checked. For more information please contact: [email protected] .

Local Government Boundary Commission For England Report No.441 LOCAL BOUNDARY COMMISSION FOR ENGLAND REPORT NO LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOUNDARY COMMISSION FOR ENGLAND CHAIRMAN Mr G J Ellerton CMS MBE DEPUTY CHAIRMAN Sir Wilfred Burns CB CBE MEMBERS Lady Ackner Mr T Brockbank DL Mr D P Harrison Professor G E Cherry ~\ THE RT HON TOM KING, MP SECRETARY OP STATE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT 1. As a consequence of suggestions which had arisen in the course of the review of their parish boundaries, South Bedfordshire District Council wrote on 3 September 1980 requesting us to review the boundary between their district and Mid Bedfordshire District with a view to making proposals for changes in two places. One of the changes recommended to us arose from a suggestion by Barton-le-Clay Parish Council, and involved the transfer of an area of land from the parish of Pulloxhill in Mid Bedfordshire District to the parish of Barton-le-Clay in South Bedfordshire District, so that the whole of the Barton industrial estate would lie within Barton-le-Clay instead of straddling the boundary as at present. This change also affected one residential property (Faldo Farm) and an area of farmland. The other recommended change aiose from a suggestion by Hockliffe Parish Council, and involved the transfer of an axea of land from the parish of Battlesden in Mid Bedfordshire District to the parish of Hockliffe in South Bedfordshire District, in order to move the boundary away from the heart of the village of Hockliffe, and in particular to rectify the situation whereby the new Hockliffe village school was currently on the Battlesden side of the boundary.

  • Chapter 10 Summary and Conclusions
CHAPTER 10 SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS This thesis represents an attempt to understand the glacial geology of the south Bedfordshire/north Hertfordshire area and its relationship to adjacent regions, and the course of events during the period relating to deposition of the glacigenic sediments. The objectives were: 1) To review previous research both from within the study area and adjacent areas and to assess the validity of the conclusions reached. 2) To gather new data on till deposits within the area. 3) To establish a local lithostratigraphic sequence. 4) Where possible, to correlate major units in this sequence with those in adjacent areas. 5) To reconstruct the glacial dynamics and glacial palaeogeography of the study area and to put this into a regional context. A total of 68 samples from 29 sites were selected. 27 samples were from boreholes not previously investigated within the area of the Hitchin Channel. Previous borehole data, especially to the north of Hitchin, are sparse and often rather dated, yielding vague and unreliable information. Thus the additional data from this study provided a valuable input to research. Macrofabric analyses were performed on 35 samples and the results were subjected to further statistical analysis in order to gain an insight into the depositional processes. The results suggest most of the tills within the study are deformed lodgement tills. This type is considered common above deformable bedrock (Hart et al., 1990) such as the Gault and Oxford Clays and the Woburn Sands present across a major part of the study area. Deformed lodgement tills were also found within the Hitchin and Stevenage Channels where they have been deposited above glacial sand, gravels or silt.
