A Few More Bullseyes for Joseph Smith from Ancient Christian Writings A summary of a few incredible Temple related “coincidences” Excerpts compiled by Cameron Ford This document contains quotes from a book called “The Temple in Time and Eternity” edited by Donald W. Parry and Stephen D. Ricks. The book is a compilation of different chapters written by various authors. To fully understand what is presented, a few definitions are helpful, as given below: Gnosticism: A movement among some 2nd century Christians that took elements of the original Christian church and created some doctrinal innovations. This movement was suppressed by the main Christian churches of the day and many of the gnostic documents were destroyed. Because of the loss of many genuine Christian doctrines and teachings in the first centuries, it is often hard for biblical scholars to determine what doctrines the Gnostics inherited from the earliest Christians and what doctrines they added. “Gnosis” means knowledge of spiritual mysteries. Some of the core teachings [doctrinal innovations of the Gnostics] include the following: 1. All matter is evil, and the non-material, spirit-realm is good. 2. There is an unknowable God, who gave rise to many lesser spirit beings called Aeons. 3. The creator of the (material) universe is not the supreme god, but an inferior spirit (the Demiurge). 4. Gnosticism does not deal with "sin," only ignorance. 5. With respect to religion, Kazakh stan is often regarded as part of the Moslem world, a lth ough t his is debat able. Kazakhstan can hardly be called a Moslem country; it is neith er purely Asian nor European; it is a place where East and West are closely intermingled . Michael Quinri INTRODUCTION IN DECEMBER 1830 THE FOUNDING Mormon prophet Joseph Smith Jr. an- nounced a revelation which established the doctrine of "gathering" the new church's members at a headquarters area: "And again, a command- ment I give unto the church, that it is expedient in me that they should assemble together at the Ohio. ..." (D&C 37: 3). Prior to that date, be- lievers in The Book of Mormon were concentrated in three locations of western New York State: at Manchester /Palmyra (where the Smith fam- ily had lived a dozen years), also at Colesville, and at Fayette. Then from February 1831 to the end of 1837, the church was headquartered in Kirt- land, Ohio (near Cleveland). However, in July 1831 Joseph Smith announced another revelation that Missouri "is the land which I have appointed and consecrated for the gathering of the saints. Wherefore, this is the land of promise, and the place for the city of Zion.. .Behold, the place which is now called In- dependence is the center place...." (D&C 57:1, 3). An 1832 revelation ex- plained: "Verily this is the word of the Lord, that the city of New Jerusalem shall be built by the gathering of the saints, beginning at this 'Full version of the paper presented in abbreviated form at the Sunstone Sympo- sium, Salt Lake City, 3 August 2000. 1 THE PRAYER CIRCLE IN THE MORMON TEMPLE© Also known as the “True Order of Prayer” February 4, 2010 Numerous articles can be found on the Internet describing the entire Mormon temple ceremony. This article will not do that, although references will be made to the general endowment ceremony. It will mainly focus on the Prayer Circle, which is not often discussed. This is a smaller ritual that occurs at the latter part of the endowment ceremony prior to the candidate going through the veil of the temple to enter the Celestial room. This ritual is also known as “The True Order of Prayer.” The focus of this article will be to show that Mormon theology is based on Gnosticism, not Biblical Christianity. On another note, I’ve posted two additional stories at my link, Faith Promoting Stories, and this brings up something new I would like to introduce¾an invitation to submit stories to this site. If any of you have a story about yourself or someone in your family, where something of a faith-promoting nature happened to you or them--or else a fictional story that you have written and feel is inspirational, send it to me. Forum 18 submission to the UN Human Rights Committee on freedom of thought, conscience and religion in Kazakhstan – May 2016 Freedom of thought, conscience and religion is, along with intrinsically linked freedoms such as those of expression, assembly, and speech, seriously restricted in Kazakhstan1. These restrictions on human rights are an intentional systemic policy by President Nursultan Nazarbaev's government2. Space does not permit a detailed analysis of all freedom of thought, conscience and belief restrictions and their implementation, so this eight-page briefing describes some but not all of the more notable human rights violations which Forum 18 has documented. Forum 18 http://www.forum18.org provides original, impartial monitoring and analysis of violations of the freedom of thought, conscience and belief of all people - whatever their belief or non-belief. We monitor and analyse Central Asia including Kazakhstan3, the South Caucasus, Russia, Belarus and Crimea, and also publish analyses on Turkey. - Making the exercise of human rights dependent on state permission Kazakhstan's basic approach is to make the exercise of human rights conditional upon state permission, as a means of state control of society, flagrantly breaking its binding international human rights obligations.
