Praise for Prayer Revolution This book goes for the heart! It also goes quickly, yet deeply, into the real issues facing the church in this critical area of prayer. John Smed has uniquely identified the problems facing the contemporary church, but he also brings biblical ideas and truth so that we journeymen will have a workable tool we be adapt to any group or church. I have seen two crippled churches move quickly to a new focus and practice of prayer. TERRY GYGER Coordinator, LiNX Read this book, and read it again. There are books on prayer, and then there is this one. Filled with prophetic insights distilled from a lifetime spent on the front lines of mission, Prayer Revolution is packed with rich theological reflec- tion, careful biblical insights, and practical application. It is not another book on prayer. It is an invitation to another way of living. It is disruptive, as Jesus was; it is timely, as the Spirit always is; it is soul-nourishing and life-changing, as the Father meant it to be. Read it and be changed. DAN MACDONALD Senior minister, Grace Toronto Church Solid and convicting. A biblical call for us to connect with our God. TOM WOOD Author, Gospel Coach Prayer Revolution fills an important gap, written to awaken a generation to the power, potential, and preeminence of prayer in the kingdom. The book is provoking and practical in addressing our western culture and attitudes to- ward prayer. It identifies the prayer barriers of fear and idolatry and serves as a guide to help us overcome the obstacles that are not just holding us back as individuals but as communities, cities, and even nations. I highly recommend this book. It is easy to read, thoroughly scriptural, and it just might disrupt your prayer life—in a good way! CRAIG KRAFT Executive director, Outreach Canada This book has inspired me to reimagine the place and power of prayer under Christ’s ascension ministry such as to expect a powerful and illuminating divine-human encounter. In practical terms, John’s meticulous review of the “normative” place of prayer as established by the ministries of Christ and the apostles is having a strategic impact in the way I do mission and ministry. This book is not one of them. Gathering many of the Bible’s references to prayer, John explores a pattern that reveals corporate prayer as not just a last-reserve tool for revival, but the sign of revival itself. This book is a power- ful tool to spark revival. ALEXA GILKER Screenwriter In my teens, I read E. M. Bounds and Andrew Murray on prayer and was greatly affected. And I have read numerous books on this topic since then. But Prayer Revolution is the one that has affected me most as an adult. It is deeply biblical and practical. John takes us through the Scriptures, which amounts to an adventure in prayer. I found myself praying my way through the book. As I did, you too will find yourself standing with the ascended Christ in the pres- ence of the Father praying holistically. The result for me has been God-focused prayers with confidence and power. May His kingdom come! RUSS SIMONS WorldVenture missionary to Asia; consultant to WEA on prayer Every generation of the church needs a prophetic voice to rouse it from complacency. ThroughPrayer Revolution, prepare to hear God calling you to a movement of prayer, revival, and renewal! It is clear, compelling, and constructive. CONNAN KUBLIK Director, Grace Network Canada; church planter, New City Church I have read many informative and insightful books on prayer. Books that make me want to take notes and keep reading. But John’s book is counterin- tuitive as written word. It does not inspire more reading. Rather, it makes me want to stop reading, set the book down . and pray . Thy kingdom come. AL BREITCRUZ Salvation Army team leader This is a fresh view of prayer from a long-time faithful practitioner, placing it as an essential and strategic element in the progress of God’s kingdom. One thinks of Paul who, at the end of presenting the various pieces of Christian armor, ends by tying them all, via a present participle, with the phrase: praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication (Eph. 6:18), as if to say: This is the last and essential piece in the armor of God. Thank you, John, for reminding us about the crucial place of prayer as we seek to promote the advancement of God’s kingdom in times of much opposition. REV. DR. PETER JONES Director, truthXchange; adjunct professor, Westminster Seminary, California Copyrighted Material - Not Final Copy PrayerRevoltion-INT_v1.indd 2 1/8/20 11:45 AM For several years now, I have had a growing sense that God is calling the church in North America to rediscover the place and power of corporate prayer. John Smed gives voice to this as he unpacks the Scriptures, church history, and our present-day need to recover a movement of corporate prayer. All who lead churches, ministries, and homes would do well to read carefully this book. DARIN PESNELL Lead pastor, ironworkschurch.org Like the flashing stick-figure on my dash reminding me to buckle up before driving, Prayer Revolution reminds that prayer precedes any real advance of the gospel, and prayer is what sustains it. The biblical and historical evidence is there for us to see in John’s book, and we need to heed the call to join in united prayer to partner with our Lord in His mission. DAN RUTHERFORD Founder, The Activate Course The book you are holding in your hand is a treasure. With great clarity and deep conviction, John lays forth a vision for prayer that is expansive, invigo- rating, and most of all, deeply biblical. Few books have ever stirred my hunger for God and His coming kingdom like Prayer Revolution.
