The financial assistance given by the state govt. in the form of scholarships to the students belonging to SC/ST/OBC classes is available in this college too. In addition state sponsored scholarships like Pratibha Kiran, Vikramaditya and Gaon Ki Beti are also available in the college. The college gives three half-freeships in each section on the basis of merit to the students belonging to general category provided they are not in receipt of any (such) financial assistance from any charitable institution and the total annual gross income of whose parent does not exceed Rs. 1 lac. For each section there is nominated a proctor from among the teaching staff. He also acts as a mentor for the students of that particular class.

On the basis of their performance in the class students are identified as slow or quick learners. For the weaker students remedial classes are held while problem solving classes are arranged for all the students. Special coaching classes are also held to help students in their preparation for competitive exams. While most of the teaching is done with the conventional black-board chalk and lecture method, the use of modern teaching aids such as LCD projector and methods like group discussions, seminars, quiz etc. are also encouraged. In every semester 15 percent weightage is given to internal assessment by means of continuous comprehensive evaluation (CCE). The subject teacher has the liberty of choosing the mode of evaluation from among modes like oral or written test, group discussions, seminars, quiz, written assignments etc. In order to encourage greater attendance the college proposes to link the marks of CCE with the attendance, that is out of the marks allotted for CCE a few would be reserved for the attendance of the students. The proposal lies pending with the governing body of the institution for the approval.

For the setting of the examination papers, the care is taken (as a matter of policy) that atleast 50% of the total paper setters are external. For practical examinations the examiners are compulsorily external i.e. those who come from other colleges or universities. After the written examination, the answer books are evaluated centrally at UG level while they are sent to the concerned examiner at PG level. In order to ensure uniform evaluation at UG level most papers are sent with memorandum of instructions prepared by the paper setters. The evaluation process of answer books involves the following pattern (steps):

Mixing of answer books → hiding the roll number and coding the answer books → valuation → reviewing → scrutiny → decoding → tabulation → coalation and then declaration of the result after obtaining approval by the examination committee. Cases pertaining to the use of unfair means (UFM) are dealt with by a separate committee as per the existing university rules. There is a provision for the revaluation of the answer books (done by two examiners separately). The students can also see their answer books in presence of two subject experts. CRITERION V: STUDENT SUPPORT AND PROGRESSION

The college strives hard to translate its vision of producing mature human beings & responsible citizens in to reality by providing its students with such an environment as is conducive to such grooming. The college closely monitors their progression to ensure their all round development.

In addition to the several scholarships & other assistance given by the state govt. to the students belonging to the under privileged classes & incentive to brilliant boys and girls (of general category) the college has thoughtfully instituted the following assistance for the students who are left bereft of any such support. They have requisite qualifications to be admitted to this college and crave to pursue studies but for the want of sufficient funds they are either unable to do it or find it extremely difficult. This support includes: a) Half/full freeship to the students whose earning parent is not alive. b) 3 half freeships in each section of self financing courses granted on the basis of merit. The college has a unique system of placing each class under the supervision of a proctor chosen from among the regular teaching faculty. CRITERION VI: GOVERNANCE, LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT

The principal of the college is the academic and administrative head of the institution. As such he remains at helm of the affairs related to the governance and management of the college. A democratic and decentralized approach in administration provides ample opportunity to the staff and students to develop the quality of leadership. As the college has consolidated its financial bottom line by means of the money accumulated through self financing courses there is a substantial fund available for the (college) developmental activities. A close monitoring of academic, administrative and financial management ensures the optimum exploitation & utilization of the resources. The college administration always strives to achieve academic and administrative excellence and to ensure expansion of physical infrastructure. Immediate compliance of the orders of the superior authority is the hall mark of the college staff, a trend that they owe to their predecessors. A glance through the list of alumni of the college will substantiate the fact that college has dutifully upheld its precious heritage of discipline and learning.

In order to keep an eye on the utilization of funds and implementation of policies as an autonomous institution a governing body is constituted. It is headed by the chairman nominated by the state govt. Besides the principal as the secretary there are other members nominated by the affiliating university (DAVV) and the UGC. The governing body keeps monitoring the development work taking place on the campus. The governing body is the main body empowered to take decision in the matters of governance. The autonomy for innovation is thus exercised through decentralization of administration and the collective efforts of the staff and the students.

The state Govt. (MP) has constituted a people participation committee (Janbhagidari Samittee as it is called) for every Govt. college of the state with the sole motive of raising funds for the college. Such one committee has also been constituted for this college. It is headed by the president (of the committee) nominated by the state govt. The principal of the college acts as the secretary while the other members are nominated by the president himself.

The office of the principal is run with the help of a number of members of the ministerial staff. There is a registrar or (in his absence) an administrative officer nominated from among the existing teaching staff, a head clerk, an accountant and a number of other lower/upper division clerks. They are all responsible for running the office administration. Most of the work done by the office has been computerized. Recently e-service book (record) of the staff has also been prepared by the office. The salary of the staff members is invariably deposited into their saving bank accounts on or before the 1 st day of every month. The academic and the other related activities are performed by the examination department and the departmental heads. To facilitate smooth administration & development various committees are constituted from time to time. They comprise mostly of the teaching faculty and sometimes other members of the staff and the students are also nominated on them.

The meeting of the Governing body, Janbhagidari Samittee are held at regular intervals of time. The other bodies like staff council, board of studies, standing committee, examination committee meet whenever required. In these meetings various academic & administrative issues along with developmental proposals & their effective implementation are discussed. The current status of various schemes in progress is also discussed. This decentralized approach to administration gives an impetus to the notion of collective participation which makes administration smooth & development rapid.

The college receives its finances chiefly from three sources.

1) Grant received from the state govt. 2) College development fund from the UGC. 3) Fees collected for the self-financing and other courses. The audit of the income and expenditure of the college first by a CA and then by auditors from the department of higher education and from the office of the Accountant General of Madhya Pradesh is mandatory. Weakness –

1. Because of increasing number of students every year the college runs from 7.20 AM to 5.40 PM. 2. Because of the semester system, the college has to follow a very tight academic schedule. 3. The college being a government institution is subject to changes as per the desire of the state govt. Thus the members of the staff including the principal can be transferred like the staff of any other college. This hampers the long term perspective of the college development. 4. As a matter of policy new posts of college teachers are not created. Consequently there is no regular faculty available for new high tech subjects like Bio-technology, and Computer Science. As such the college is compelled to run these courses with the help of the guest faculty who are appointed only for a limited period as per requirement.

5. Owing to the open admission policy of the state govt. (based of course, on the marks obtained in the qualifying exam) a large number of students belonging to rural areas get admitted to this institution. It take them a long time to adapt themselves to the new environment & their inappropriate level of attainment specially in the field of English language often acts as a deterrent in their progress. The college thus has to take recourse to bilingual teaching. 6. Long delays are caused due to the compulsion of obtaining prior permission from the state govt. in matters of infrastructural expansion which the college proposes to undertake utilizing its own resources. 7. A very limited academic autonomy in matters of curriculum designing.

Living up to the expectations of the people by constantly improving the academic standards of the century-old-institution. 3. A greater emphasis on the additional coaching provided by the college for the preparation for various competitive examinations. 4. In addition to the maintenance the expansion of physical infrastructure. 5. Induction of new self-financing courses. 6.
