The band has been around since 2004 and has been consistently building a formidable reputation due to their never-say-die attitude. Bhattacharya - Bass, Nishant Hagjer - Drums PRESS BIOGRAPHY Revered by fans and bands alike, it's safe to say that there are only a few metal bands in India that believe in their music like Undying Inc do. Critically acclaimed and described as a heady cocktail of Thrash, Hardcore, Groove Metal, Djent, Prog & just straight forward Brutal Death Metal. Undying Inc are an extreme modern metal act that believe in delivering an avant-garde combination of rapid fire riffs, massive breakdowns and technical prowess; which coupled with a percussive attack and a vocal assault from the deepest, darkest pits of hell leave you gasping for air, crushed under the suffocating tautness of overwhelming heavy music. Coming in low and fast Undying Inc do what they do best, punch you in the gut and beat you senseless. Riding a wave of success since December 2010 with the release of their second album, Aggressive World Dynasty, the band has undoubtedly surpassed the expectations set by the people not too many years ago. Undying Inc have not only returned full throttle with this album, but have brought the fury of Hades packaged into a dozen mind altering tracks. From the opening seconds of the menacing intro 'In Vacuo', the pulverizing 'Concept Error' and 'Aftermath', to the technical thrash of 'Alloy' and the title track, the polyrhythmic wizardry of 'Xenophobe' and dissonant beatdowns of 'Contagion' packaged with heavier versions of cult favorites 'Manimal', 'Evilution', 'Existence Failed V3', 'Breeding Gods' and the Metal Hammer - Planet Metal featured 'Membraneous'; Aggressive World Dynasty is now widely considered as the best metal album of the year in India by critics and peers alike. The album has gone on to win the coveted 'Critic's Choice - Metal Album Of The Year' at the Rolling Stone Metal Awards 2011, besides getting the band the Best Metal Drummer & Vocalist Awards as well. The album also gained the #1 spot on Rock Street Journal's Top 10 Releases Of The Year 2011, and received accolades for Best Album Artwork and Single Of The Year for the track 'After Math.' Not to let only their studio prowess do the talking, the band believes in the art of live experience as their primary touch point. Besides decimating numerous clubs and college fests across the country, the band has supported world renowned metal acts like Amon Amarth &Textures at Deccan Rock Festival 2009 with the cream of Indian Metal and a slot at the first ever outing of the prestigious NH7 Weekender festival in 2010. Within a span of four years Undying Inc have had three stints at India's cult rock festival the Great Indian Rock, opening for Norwegian metal legends Enslaved and Satyricon as well as other top modern metal acts such as Benea Reach, Freak Kitchen, Intronaut & Tesseract, topping it off by opening for their idols, the iconic Swedish progressive metal band Meshuggah. The winter of 2011 also saw Undying Inc set out on their first ever overseas stint thorough a cultural exchange of Heavy Metal, sharing a double bill with Trondheim post-hardcore act Torch on a mini tour of Norway and return triumphantly, having won over a completely new fan base. In the summer of 2012, Undying Inc return to the cold north again, playing alongside some of the most respected names in metal, at the holy grail of unholy extreme metal, the Inferno Metal Festival. Only a brief look at the band's videos on YouTube, prove why Undying Inc's stage prowess has labeled the band as incendiary live performers with no equal. At the end of the day words can only say so much, to experience Undying Inc in its true form, simply either pick up their latest release and tear your house down, or wait for them to carpet bomb your city soon. • The Global As the Postcolonial: Desire, Identity, and Liminality in Indian Rock
International Journal of Communication 10(2016), 3106–3123 1932–8036/20160005 The Global as the Postcolonial: Desire, Identity, and Liminality in Indian Rock SANGEET KUMAR1 Denison University, Ohio, USA This essay uses the concept of desire to reinfuse existing conversations about the postcolonial condition and its relationship with globalization. The essay uses the Indian uptake of the seemingly alien cultural practice of rock music to understand the confluence of vestigial structures of colonialism and a globalizing subjectivity that challenge unified notions of a national identity in India. By exploring media coverage of rock and testimony from musicians, the essay unravels the liminal spaces of destabilized identities and fragmented subjectivities that mark the global postcolonial condition. In doing so, it illuminates the role of structures, past and present, in shaping cultural desire and determining affective responses to global culture. Keywords: desire, postcolonial condition, globalization, rock, India Introduction Popular cultural practices are imbued with messages that scholars have historically read as political (Bennett, 1999; Hebdige, 1979; Fiske, 2010). This essay seeks to understand the ongoing sociocultural changes in India and the transformations within notions of its national identity through a close study of the cultural formation of rock music in India. Globally feted for joining the league of fast- growing nations, including the BRICs (Brazil, Russia, India, and China; Armijo, 2007), the narrative of India’s economic growth in the decades since globalization has been both affirmed and challenged (Drèze & Sen, 2013; Pal & Ghosh, 2007). Although the economic consequences of the emergence of BRICs nations have been much studied (Baskaran & Muchie, 2008; Jadhav, 2012; Mallick & Sousa, 2013), the transformations in their social and cultural realms resulting from their embrace of global capitalism, which this essay analyzes, are just as deserving of analysis.

Dawe/ Bennett, Berg. 2nd DRAFT 1. Introduction What roles does the guitar play, and what meanings does it convey in India? 1 These are not easy questions to answer, since the instrument has spread into many different musical genres, in various geographical regions of the subcontinent. This chapter is nonetheless an attempt, in response to those questions, to sketch out the main features of guitar culture in India. I see it as a kind of snapshot: partial, blurred and lacking fine definition perhaps, but offering a perspective that more focused and tightly-framed studies could not.
