P.E. graduated from Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin, with a major in history and minors in English and speech. Upon his graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and reported for duty at the Muskogee, Oklahoma, Air Corps Primary Training School.
