Manifesto Is Zul Noordin's Edge in Battle for Shah Alam Bernama 30 April, 2013 by Fadzli Ramli SHAH ALAM Manifesto Is Zul Noordin's Edge In Battle For Shah Alam Bernama 30 April, 2013 By Fadzli Ramli SHAH ALAM (Bernama) -- The Shah Alam parliamentary seat is set to be the scene of a stiff battle between Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Zulkifli Noordin and incumbent Abdul Khalid Abdul Samad of PAS, come May 5. The fight, to say the least, has been described as unique. Zulkifli was from the opposition Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) before he repented, and has been entrusted to shoulder the challenge to wrest back the seat from Abdul Khalid. In the intensive campaign for the support of voters since last week, Zulkifli clearly has the edge due to the BN manifesto which promises a better future for the people of Selangor, especially now that Selangor BN is led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. As the capital of Selangor, the Shah Alam city, known as the Orchid City, and with a population of 650,000, is vital in that it serves as a yardstick for BN to return to power in Selangor. In the event Shah Alam can be recaptured from PAS - and Zulkifli is very confident he can do it - it will pave the way for BN to be in power again in Selangor. Previously, Shah Alam was a BN stronghold. Since GE7 in 1986, it was won by Rahmah Osman, followed by Rakibah Abd Manap and Salamon Selamat. In fact, Selangor General Election deputy director Datuk Seri Mohd Zin Mohamed won the seat at the GE10 in 1999. On the BN manifesto for GE13, investment banker Nor Razlan Abdul Muhid, 38, from Shah Alam, said the offer from BN gave hope to the city's residents on the resolution of numerous problems, ranging from the high cost of houses to the question of child care. "The BN manifesto has advantages because it is the manifesto of an attacker, despite it appearing to be too good to be true, I am not worried because BN has a record as a political party which fulfills its promise. This is a genuine offer to the people of Selangor and Shah Alam, not like the other party. "Most interesting to me is the effort to uphold again the position of the Selangor Foundation which is directly responsible for the education of our children. This foundation is important for my children and grandchildren, and also other young generations of Selangor," he said. Zulkifli said the Selangor BN manifesto could give a better life to the residents of Shah Alam, including cheaper housing, 'Love Selangor People's Transit House', which is the best way to help the less fortunate to build a life in Shah Alam, and getting rid of the problem of homeless people. According to the electoral roll, as of April 9, the Shah Alam parliamentary constituency has 99,957 registered voters comprising Malays (69.93 per cent), Chinese (14.94 per cent), Indians (14.18 per cent) and others making up the rest. The area has two state seats, namely, Batu Tiga and Kota Anggerik. Each will see a three-cornered fight. For the Batu Tiga seat, BN candidate Datuk Ahmad Nawawi M Zin will square off against incumbent Rodziah Ismail of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and independent Mohd Uzi Che Hussin while for Kota Anggerik, the contest involves BN candidate Mohd Yusof Din, PKR incumbent Yaakob Sapari and Independent Eriq Faisal Rusli. -- BERNAMA Copyright © 2013 BERNAMA Source: http://www.bernama.com/bernama/v7/newsindex.php?id=946442 .

  • MCA Against Perkasa, but Accepts 'Repentant' Zul Noordin, Says Soi
MCA against Perkasa, but accepts ‘repentant’ Zul Noordin, says Soi Lek Malaysian Insider May 2,2013 By Zurairi AR KUALA LUMPUR, May 2 – Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said today that MCA has accepted Perkasa vice-president Datuk Zulkifli Noordin as a Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, despite vehemently renouncing the Malay supremacy group. The remark by the MCA president follows black-and-white advertisements put out by DAP in Chinese dailies Sin Chew Daily and China Press, which say that a vote for MCA is a vote for Umno and Perkasa. “MCA is against Perkasa ... In the case of Shah Alam, he practised extremist politics while he was in PAS. After he entered BN, he is penitent and has repented,” Dr Chua told reporters here, referring to Zulkifli who is contesting the Malay-majority Shah Alam seat as a BN direct candidate. “When someone apologises openly we have to accept him sincerely. All religions do that.” Dr Chua (picture) also slammed DAP for confusing voters by saying that one vote for MCA equals one vote for Perkasa, since the two organisations have no official link. Meanwhile, saying one vote for DAP equals one vote for PAS is accurate since the two parties have allied themselves in Pakatan Rakyat (PR), Dr Chua said. The BN decision to field Zulkifli, the Kulim Bandar Baharu incumbent who was once a lawyer for de facto PR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has been laced with controversy from the start. Zulkifli was in PAS before 2008, and became a BN-friendly independent MP and critical of the opposition when he was dismissed from PKR on March 6, 2010 over a police report he lodged against PAS’ Khalid Abdul Samad, who is the incumbent MP of Shah Alam.

  • Malaysia General Election 13
Beat: Politics Malaysia General Election 13 General Election Georgetown, Penang, 07.05.2013, 06:44 Time USPA NEWS - Ruling coalition Barisan Nasional has little reason to gloat over its win in the May 5 general election. Violence, phantom voters and the unreliable indelible ink were only part of the shenanigans BN resorted to in its bid to secure Putrajaya. Victory however was far from sweet for BN; not only did Despite BN´s extensive propaganda, good sense thankfully prompted voters to reject candidates such as Malay extremist party Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali who was knocked out by PAS´ Nik Abdul Nik Aziz in Pasir Mas, Kelantan. In the 2008 general election, Ibrahim won the seat under the PAS ticket. He later contested as an independent candidate for the Pasir Mas parliamentary seat. Also shown the door was Perkasa vice-president Zulkifli Noordin, who riled up the Hindus with his insensitive remarks about the religion. Shah Alam incumbent MP Khalid Samad beat Zulkifli with a slight increase in majority. He polled 48,835 votes to Noordin´s 38,084. Ibrahim despite receving full backing from former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad endorsing him As for Zulkifli, despite being racist to the core, he was BN´s choice for the Shah Alam parliamentary seat; maybe it was poetic justice that brought an end to Zulkifli´s active stint in politics, for shortly before he was named as the BN candidate, Zulkifli invited trouble by belittling the Hindu deities. In the 2008 general election, Zulkifli contested for the Kulim-Bandar Bahru parliamentary seat under the Pakatan Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) ticket.

ACCOUNTABILITY IN THE PARLIAMENT OF MALAYSIA: A STUDY ON INTERRUPTIONS BY THE CHAIRPERSON IN THE DEWAN RAKYAT Inaugural-Dissertation zur Erlangung der Doktorwürde der Philosophischen Fakultät der Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Bonn vorgelegt von Nor Azura binti A Rahman aus Johor, Malaysia Bonn 2021 Gedruckt mit der Genehmigung der Philosophischen Fakultät der Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn Zusammensetzung der Prüfungskommission: Prof. Dr. Stephan Conermann (Vorsitzende/Vorsitzender) Prof. Dr. Christoph Antweiler (Betreuerin/Betreuer und Gutachterin/Gutachter) Prof. Dr. Claudia Derichs (Gutachterin/Gutachter) Tag der mündlichen Prüfung: 26 November 2020 i ABSTRACT The election of the chairman of the House of Representatives, a chamber of the Malaysian parliament, has always been determined by the ruling party. The centralization of executive power has also absorbed the function of the chairman, so that the chairman acts partisanly in parliamentary debates. Also, the chairman has developed into an institution that carries out agenda-setting within the framework of the parliament. This raises the conceptual question of whether legislation in Malaysia is still performed independently by the parliament. The observed patterns require an attempt to re-conceptualize the roles as well as the assigned meaning of various expressions of parliamentary routine, including those that are unwritten and informal, for instance those which can also be termed “subjective forms of rule” at one's own discretion. In my doctoral thesis, I apply an interdisciplinary analytical framework that relates to accountability studies, as well as micro- sociological direct interaction, the interpretations of procedural interactions in conversation, as well as studies of political discretion in parliamentary operations. My main research question asks how the Speaker of Parliament fulfils his responsibilities by disrupting ongoing parliamentary debates.

  • ISU SURVIVAL POLITIK MUSLIM DI MALAYSIA Oleh Prof
ISU SURVIVAL POLITIK MUSLIM DI MALAYSIA Oleh Prof. Zakaria Stapa dan Prof. Madya Dr. Ibrahim Abu Bakar PENDAHULUAN Melayu dan Muslim adalah sinonim mengikut Perlembagaan Persekutuan Malaysia (the Federal Constitution of Malaysia). Artikel 160 Intepretation (Interpretasi). “`Malay’ means a person who professes the religion of Islam, habitually speaks the Malay language, conforms to Malay custom and—(a) was before Merdeka Day born in the Federation or in Singapore or born of parents one of whom was born in the Federation or in Singapore, or is on that day domiciled in the Federation or in Singapore; or (b) is the issue of such a person;” (Legal Research Board 1988: 153). Perlembagaan Persekutuan Malaysia juga menyatakan dalam Artikel 3 (1) “Islam is the religion of the Federation; but other religions may be practised in peace and harmony in any part of the Federation”.(Legal Research Board 1988: 2).

  • (1) Perlembagaan Persekutuan Memperuntukkan Hak Kebebasan Beragama Bagi Setiap Individu Di Persekutuan Malaysia

  • What Happened in GE13, and What Now? Malaysiakini.Com June 16, 2013 by Clive Kessler
What happened in GE13, and what now? MalaysiaKini.com June 16, 2013 By Clive Kessler ANALYSIS In a brief commentary elsewhere (‘Malaysia's election result - no surprise to the knowledgeable,' Asian Currents, June 2013), I have noted one paradoxical but hugely important consequence of Malaysia's recent national elections held on 5 May. A paradox: anomalous domination The remarkable, perhaps "counter-intuitive", fact is that, while the election result itself - namely, a fairly close but nonetheless comfortable victory of the Umno-centred Barisan Nasional side over the Pakatan Rakyat opposition - came as no great surprise, that unremarkable result nonetheless had one quite surprising, even paradoxical, consequence. From GE13 an electorally weakened Umno emerged politically even more dominant than it had been before. While still embattled in the broader political arena, Umno was delivered a dominant position within the parliament, ruling coalition and government. By bestowing it with that now dominant parliamentary position, GE13 had delivered into Umno's hands an ascendancy over the governing BN coalition, government policy, parliament's agenda and parliamentary process, and thereby over national political life - over the nation's affairs and direction - of a quite unprecedented and perhaps irresistible kind. NONEWhat are the relevant facts here? The immediate challenge facing Premier Najib Abdul Razak (right), it had been said in the run-up to GE13, was at best to win back the two-thirds majority (or 148 of the 222 seats in the Dewan Rakyat), or at least to improve on the 2008 yield of 140. More modest and realistic than demanding recovery of the two-thirds majority, some suggested that even 145 would have been a "good result", good enough to ensure his immediate political survival against critics, adversaries and doubters in his own camp.

It's Kulim if court orders by-election Malaysiakini.com Jul 27, 2008 Opposition icon Anwar Ibrahim said today that he aims to return to parliament for the first time in a decade later this year if a court orders a by-election in Kulim-Bandar Baharu. MCPX "I can now confirm that I will contest a by-election in Kulim," said Anwar at a rally of 8,000 people in the constituency tonight. A high court in Kedah will hear a challenge on Aug 19 asking it to invalidate the result in the Kulim-Bandar Baharu seat that was won by his PKR in March 8 general elections. anwar ibrahim and pkr speechAnwar said that if the court declares the result null and void he will contest the ensuing by-election. "My plan is to contest in the Kulim-Bandar Baharu seat. I am optimistic of victory," he told AFP earlier today. "The constituency neighbours my hometown of Permatang Pauh in Penang. I am familiar with the locals there." The incumbent PKR parliamentarian Zulkifli Noordin has said he would make way for Anwar. "He understands that this is a political struggle," said Anwar of Zulkifli. "He is paving the way for me (to return to Parliament)," he added in appreciation for the Kulim MP. "God willing, Kulim will create history." A return to parliament would be a next step in the political rehabilitation of Anwar, who was sacked as deputy premier in 1998 and later jailed on sodomy and corruption charges. The sex conviction was overturned but the corruption count barred him from public office until April.
