Objectives and Activities

South West Edible Estates SCIO (SWEE) was incorporated in 17th July 2017 to support residents of Council estates and other communities in the South West of to work together with their neighbours to instigate and develop community greenspace projects. We have found that participation in community greenspace supports individual and community health and wellbeing. This is is particularly important in disadvantaged communities within council estates.

At this time, SWEE is focusing upon the development and consolidation of sites in , whilst supporting the development of new projects in Broomhouse, Hutchison and .

Achievements and Performance – Outputs, Outcomes and Impact

Funding During 2019-20, SWEE received substantial grants from Scottish Government’s People & Communities Fund and its successor the Investing in Communities programme. which allowed us to put a lot of resource into Murrayburn & Hailesland, and provide some support to the Calders.

Social Enterprise Income Through our relationship with Edible Estates CIC, we earned social enterprise income through the delivery of the School Farm project, and involvement in the Hutchison Greenspace Study. Similarly, we were contracted by Broomhouse Centre to set up a new community growing project.

Wester Hailes Community Food Hub In October 2019 we received funding to start the Wester Hailes Community Food Hub project which supported a new community growing project based at the M&H Garden, and community food work in partnership with Holy Trinity Food Bank.

Murrayburn & Hailesland Neighbourhood Garden and Community Park We continued to work with Murrayburn & Hailesland Community Park Association (M&HCPA) to bring forward the Community Park project and to establish the Neighbourhood Garden. We delivered Natural Play workshops for local children, and supported M&HCPA to gain Placemaking funding to commission City of Play architects to prepare a design study for the Community Park.

Clovenstone Neighbourhood Garden We continued to provide support to . Our community gardener, left us to be replaced in that role by . The Clovie Growers Assoc have done a great job of managing the garden themselves, and with Alan’s help have continued to encourage Clovenstone Primary school to make use of the Garden.

Calders Neighbourhood Garden have continued to offer support to the Calders Garden, with membership climbing again, and the group is in a healthy state.

School Farm We have continued to work with Edible Estates CIC to deliver the Canal View Primary School Farm project, in 2019-20, we also started a School Farm at Sighthill Primary School. Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006.

The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner’s statement

An examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent examiner’s statement

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention,

1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: o to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44 (1)(a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and o to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations
