On the first of the New Year 2018, millions of Americans will make a New Year’s resolution (or two or three) that they won’t keep. Still, despite the ritual’s repeated failings, year after year, we keep trying. This yearly tradition, which dates as far back as Ancient Rome, is a reminder that humans can't stop believing in new beginnings. How does your list look like? I think it can be really daunting when our list of New Year’s Resolution is as long as our Christmas shopping list. I firmly believe that setting small, attainable goals throughout the year, instead of a singular, overwhelming goal on January 1. By making our resolutions realistic, there is a greater chance that we will be able to keep them throughout the year, incorporating healthy behavior into our lives. It is important to remember that the New Year isn’t meant to serve as a catalyst for sweeping character changes.

Erickson, B.A., M.A.C.T. A Dissertation submitted to the Faculty of the Graduate School, Marquette University, in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy Milwaukee, Wisconsin August 2015 i ABSTRACT THE KINGDOM OF GOD AND THE HOLY SPIRIT: ESCHATOLOGY AND PNEUMATOLOGY IN THE VINEYARD MOVEMENT Douglas R. Erickson, B.A., M.A.C.T. Marquette University, 2015 This dissertation explores the relationship between eschatology and pneumatology in the Vineyard movement. The Vineyard movement is a growing expression within the evangelical Protestant tradition that seeks to combine the core doctrines of Evangelicalism with the experience of the gifts of the Spirit that is often associated with Pentecostalism. As a relatively new faith expression, the Vineyard has not received a great deal of academic interest, and thus much of its core theological commitments have not yet been explored. I shall argue that the central theological distinctive of the Vineyard is their understanding of the inaugurated, enacted, eschatological kingdom of God.

Cracked or Broken: Pentecostal Unity By Keith Warrington, Regent Theological College [email protected] EPCRA Conference, OCMS Oxford, August 12-15, 2009 Abstract 2 Introduction 3 The diversity and size of Pentecostalism 3 The history of Pentecostal disunity 4 Doctrines 4 Trinity 4 Practices 5 Racism 5 Health and Wealth Issues 7 Conclusion 8 Ecumenical Disunity 8 World Council of Churches 10 Roman Catholicism 12 Some ways forward 13 Remember that Pentecostalism is about mission 13 Recognize that the Spirit is interested in partnership more than protection 14 Concentrate on commonalities 16 Learn to follow the Spirit 16 Publicise inter-church dialogues 17 Identify the value of interaction 18 Learn from Pentecostals who stressed unity 18 Listen to the Spirit of the Bible 19 Conclusion 21 1 Abstract Just over 100 years ago, Pentecostalism was born. Since then, it has grown to be one of the biggest and fastest growing components of Christianity. It’s big – but it’s not what it was. Now, it’s multi-denominational and fragmented. There are doctrinal and practical reasons for this. This tendency to disunity has resulted in uncertainty and even hostility towards other Christian denominations, especially the World Council of Churches and the Roman Catholic Church. This has led to some unfortunate and Spirit-grieving consequences. A positive way forward must be explored for the sake of the Church (including Pentecostal and others) and in order to reflect the vision of Jesus and the mission of the Spirit. Some pointers to help achieve this end include a readiness to remember that Pentecostalism is about mission and encounter; also Pentecostals need to learn lessons from their history, listen to the Bible and, most importantly, listen to the Spirit.
