Yes, this is the same Express Scripts that recently dumped Walgreens, the nation’s largest pharmacy chain, eliminating access for the many people of color who live near these stores. But ESI does not care whether community pharmacies remain in its network, or even survive. In fact, CEO George Paz told Senator Kohl at a Judiciary Subcommittee hearing about the merger, “I can’t stop certain pharmacies from going out of business.” The other company, Medco, is requiring many of its customers to use mail-order phar- macies instead of retail pharmacies, deciding for patients in Big Brother fashion which pharmacy services they can use. This also threatens community pharmacies. But don’t look to the company for sympathy. Medco CEO David Snow believes his pharmacy robots are better than your local pharmacist down the street, and if he has his way, you will no longer have a choice. Viewed in light of existing health disparities and economic difficulties, and the indif- ference of the PBM executives, there are no benefits for African American consumers in allowing the merger to proceed, and there are many risks. If the FTC gives the merger the “most serious review” requested by Senator Kohl, it is difficult to see how they could possibly allow it to move forward. Judge Adams is the narrator of the film. Students from Paxon School of Advanced Studies are also going to make a pres- entation through music. The group appropriately named DIVERSITY and under the direc- tion of Ms. Deborah McDuffie Doby will perform. This group includes students from diverse backgrounds. Students have also been invited from Eugene Butler Middle School and from the City of Jacksonville Youth Build Program and the DAWN (Developing Adults with Necessary Skills) Program. This is an important dialog and discussion that must take place among judges, lawyers, teacher and students from different areas and backgrounds. Submitted by Pauline M. E kaabo (eh-kah-bow). Welcome. by Frances Bradley Volume Burks, Photographer Surprise Retirement Celebration!

After 28 years as Lead Tech at Penske, Anthony “Tony” Murray decided to call it quits so he could spend more time with his family and working in his church. After spoiling his wife, children and grandchildren for several months, his loving wife, Maxine decided he should be rewarded for all his hard work so she solicited assistance from family, friends and fel- low church members to pull off a major surprise. A few weeks ago, more than 150 family members, friends, former coworkers and fellow church members came together to celebrate the end of the professional career of the great worker, father, friend and church steward. Family attending included his wife Maxine; children: Anthony K. Murray (Katrina), Florina Spikes (Leon) of Waycross, Lawrence Murray of Philadelphia, and Tarnee Coffey (Richard); grandchildren: Raven Coffey, Richard Coffee III, Rochelle Coffey, Anthony K. Murray, Jr., Brittany Taylor, Joshaun Sanders, Airlissia Swain, Rachel Swain, and Raela Swain He was completely caught off guard because he thought he was going to a function honoring his daughter. He wanted to support her like the good father that he is. He was pleas- antly surprised when the tables were turned as she gave him a very moving tribute when she expressed her gratitude for his ever presence in her life and those of her children. Family, friends, former coworkers, in-laws, members of the Church Security and Married Couples Ministries (Shiloh MBC) came forth to express sincere gratitude for acts of kind- ness and generosity given or displayed throughout the years by the honoree. Pops, as he is called by the kids, grew misty eyed as he listened to each comment. At one point, he blew a kiss to his wife Maxine to show his appreciation for her acts of love. She in turn ran up front to plant a big smooch on him. This brought cheers from the crowd. Finally the man of the hour was able to speak and thanked everyone for coming out to share in the celebration with him. He enjoyed his work while doing it, but retirement feels good, too. He definitely feels the love generated around the room. Maxine also thanked everyone for coming and assisting her in surprising her husband. It wasn’t easy. The guests dined on a delicious meal of roasted chicken, meatballs, rice, green beans, rolls, various sodas and desert prepared by Libby D’s Catering. The videographer was Must “C” Films/Charles Nicholson and the photography was handled by Portfolio’s LTD, Leroy Love.

Cymphonique Delightful Teen With A Sizzling, Positive New TV Show! By Rych McCain, [email protected] and Facebook Photo by Michael Elms for TV Network

’m sitting at a massively long meeting table in the conference room for stage 25 at Paramount Studios. This is one of the most famous sound stages in show business whose hallowed floors have hosted among others, “I love Lucy,” “The Lucy IShow,” “Taxi,” “Cheers,” “Frazier,” “True Jackson, VP” and now Nickelodeon’s new teen live-action dramedy series “How To Rock.” As I settle into my comfy seat, it doesn’t take long for the show’s star, fifteen year-old Cymphonique Miller (PKA Cymphonique) to grace the room. She is gorgeous, funny, witty, intelligent, very articulate and dressed fly! The fact that Cymphonique is the baby daughter of rap music mogul and businessman and of course little sis to rapper/actor/athlete is slowly becoming irrelevant “old-hat” information as she methodically carves her own niche in the biz. In her new show, Cymphonique plays Kacey Simon, a teen who was once a “mean girl” in a clique who called them- selves “The Perfs” (meaning perfect) but she fell out of favor with them after she has to get glasses and braces. She soon discovers that hanging with a new group of friends may not be as bad as it first seemed. The season will follow Kacey as she navigates through high school social circles, real and fake friendships and learns how to rock her “real” self. The show basically carries a positive message for teens to be themselves because at the end of the day that is only who you can actu- ally be anyway! Now for those who assume that Cymphonique got this show due to the workings of her dad, think again-- -she didn’t! She actually auditioned just like anyone else and they didn’t even know who she was until after they had cho- sen her. She explains, “I went in for a general audition when I was twelve. We flew to New York and this was just a gener- al audition. It wasn’t necessarily for the show “How To Rock.” When I went, I decided that I didn’t want them to know who I was related to at all. No dad, I’m not saying who you are, I don’t want them to know who Romeo is, when I do this audi- tion I want to do this for me.” When describing the audition experience Cymphonique lights up, “I had to do many different things in the script. I had to sing, dance, act and do different voices. So literally for this one video clip, I was doing all of these different tasks. I went back home and a month later we got a call saying we really like Cymphonique’s video, we want to do something with you. So not until then, they were like wait a minute, that’s Romeo’s sister who we already had a show with and she did a gener- al audition? They were like how did we not know this? So it feels so special for me and I feel like I was meant to be here because they loved me for who I was before they knew who I was related to. Nickelodeon is like m extended family!” When she gets into talking about the show, Cymphonique emphasizes that it is basically being true to who you are. She adds, “It’s got music in it so we have a new song each episode which is really cool and we also love physical comedy and each week we do crazy stunts.” How does Cymphonique fair in comparison to her character Kacey Simon? She laughs, “I would have to say that the way that Kacey Simon dresses and my style defer a little bit just because Kacey Simon is more of a girly girl. She like always has skirts, she does her hair way more fly than me. I’m more like edgy glam. That’s my style, that’s what I like. I love jewelry, I love to accessorize. I love sparkly things. I always love shinny skinny jeans and boots and I love Doc Martens!” Check out her website cymphonique.com. The Rych McCain’s Hollyhood Notes! show premieres Saturday, Feb 4 at 8:30 P.M.
